So I'm not a regular D3 viewer. Heck, I only began to watch it a couple of months back around the start of the year. Over the course of like 3 months, I've delved and watched many of the scenes and episodes that I found interesting. Which means I've watched random episodes and scenes before Kriya's exit, random scenes before and after the NDC, and I now track the show regularly.
Swayam, as a character, is a bit different from the norms. He's not your average television bad boy, neither is he the quintessential guy next door. Rather, he's this one intense person, whose life revolved solely around 3 things; dill [Sharon], Dostii [the team, Rey, Kriya and the others] and Dance.
A lot has been said about his character graph with respect to the change in CVs and the current track. With this going on, I felt as if I needed to pen down a few things in defense of Swayam Shekhawat.
Swayam, as we all know, was the eternal loverboy. His day began with Sharon and ended with Sharon. The phrase "head over heels in love" doesn't justify the extent of his love for her. Swayam's love for Sharon has always been selfless, to the point that he could lay his life down for her.
Even when the two of them had the MAJOR argument about the entire dance troupe thing thanks to Adi manipulating things, Swayam never really changed. He knew that it was Sharon sending him all those gifts, and was happy and excited about it, and only wanted to take some "bhao" and enjoy the attention before actually getting back with her forever.
However, there was that one incident that changed Swayam forever. The day Sharon rejected Swayam, its as if he died on the inside. Sharon, who was practically his life, rejected his love in front of everyone, and once again he was the laughing stock of the school. This was when he couldn't take it anymore. Despite Sharon begging and pleading and doing everything in her power to apologise to him, he didn't relent. For him, he had come to realise that Sharon was "deluding" herself, and she never really loved him. He was just a mere "phase" in her life and the two of them could never unite. Of course, as we all know, this isn't true. However, who will tell Swayam, whose existence practically died on the day he was rejected by the love of his life in front of everyone.
It is after this that Swayam reduced his affection towards her. While there have been instances where he couldn't help but be drawn towards her, he is consciously making an effort to not be the previous "loverboy". A lot was said when Swayam didn't try and check on Sharon the night she was ill, courtesy Ruhi. I, however, noticed the urgency in his demeanor when he met Sharon the next morning to enquire about her health. Of course, it wasn't as extreme and intense as it was before, but again, this is understandable, given all that has happened.
After all that has happened, it is only natural for Swayam to consciously treat Sharon the way he'd treat his other friends. Yes, he still loves her. Yes, she is someone more than a friend to him. But till his heart is not completely sure of the fact that she is completely in love with him, he's not going to let his barriers break. And that is where Sharon Rai Prakash enters. She's got to flash him that smile of hers, and make him TRUST in her love for him.
With this, I am not blaming Sharon for all that has happened. What Sharon did in that situation is COMPLETELY understandable. Sharon has ALWAYS been a private person, and she NEEDS to have things in her control. When things spiral out of her control, she doesn't know how to react, and that is exactly what happened that fateful day. She couldn't control the fact that the entire university had just become privy to an extremely personal conversation of hers, which is why she asserted control in the most twisted way possible - she rejected the basis of her relationship with Swayam. It was a jaded attempt to bring some sort of control in her already out of control life, but to her luck, it only served to make things worse.
Ruhi's character is something that makes no sense, especially after the revelation of her supposed mental ailment, cause her supposed ailment doesn't justify what and why does she do things the way she does. This is something the SwaRon relationship could have done without.
However, I see a glimmer of hope. I have this gut feeling, that with Kriya's return from the US, Kriya, Rey and Sharon are gonna kick some ass and actually win back Swayam. And when I mean win back Swayam, I don't mean win him back as a trophy. I mean win back his trust, and win back his love.
The ride may be tumultuous, but for some reason I am optimistic about the destination. So I'm gonna brace myself and actually wait for the day that Swayam finally accepts that his love was always his; then, now and forever.
