Enough of the boring lecture here it goes...

First Date

Everything just had to be perfect. Because if it wasn't perfect, I know I'll just lose my mind. I've been planning this in my head ever since I was 11, and if it went wrong the little girl inside of me would break into a thousand little disappointed pieces, and I don't want that. What I want is to have the greatest night of my life with the greatest boy ever and be able to go home and say, "Today was a fairytale." I had one simple wish for tonight. All I wanted was to have the perfect first date. But I guess people don't always get what they want, huh?

"shit"

It was 7:51 and already things weren't going so well. I couldn't find the other pair to my brown gladiator heels, my hair was a mess, and I couldn't pick which perfume to wear. "Mom!" I yelled through my door. "Do you know where my brown gladiators are?" I heard footsteps on the stairs as my petite mother entered my room. She was in a relaxed mood – unlike me – and calmly just bent down by my bed and got out the shoe I was looking for. "Oh," I was a little embarrassed, so I just took the shoe with a little "Thanks." Sitting down on my bed to put it on, Mom shook her head with a little chuckle. "Oh, why this is such a big deal to you, I will never understand." "It's my first date ever, Mom," I told her, tying the straps of my shoe. "Of course it's a big deal." Yes, I'm sixteen years old and I'm going on my first date. Weird thing is, though, that I got my first kiss even though on my cheeks, when I was twelve and still hadn't gotten out on a date. This date was special though. I was going out with a guy I've known for forever – consequently the guy who gave me my first kiss when I was twelve – and he finally asked me out. I've had a crush on him ever since the sixth grade when he kissed me in a secluded area in the basketball field of our school. I was upset then and he'd wanted to make me feel better, and that kiss did it. But it also started four years of a long-term crush that just wouldn't go away. We were really close friends too, so that didn't help things much.

But a week ago it was as if something clicked in his mind. We were just closing up for the auditorium since we were on the set designing committee when suddenly his question popped out of nowhere. It was so cute, actually; he was blushing like crazy and nervously telling me that I didn't have to go if I didn't want to, but I told him that that would make me that happiest girl on earth (or the most panicked, most nervous one). So that was why, amongst the reason that this was my very first date, I wanted this night to be perfect.

"Plus, this is Swayam," I added as Mom folded her arms across her chest and trailed behind me as I sat down in front of my mirror at my dressing table. "I've wanted him to ask me out ever since the sixth grade." "Which is why you shouldn't be nervous," she said gently, giving me a soft smile. "He's your best friend. You just gotta be yourself and everything will go fine."

I smiled at her reflection in the mirror, but just the thought that he was my best friend and that if this night was ruined could ruin our friendship forever just made me all the more nauseous. Instead of dwelling on it too much, I turned back to my own reflection. My makeup was okay – I went with some mascara and black eyeliner to bring out my brown eyes, and soft blusher. I added red lipstick to match my red dress, which consisted of a skirt that ended right above my knees in light ruffles. The top was short-sleeved – it ended at the top of my arm in the same light ruffles – and a three brown round buttons tied the front together. I'd worn a long brown necklace to compliment it. My black shoulder-length hair was a different story. It was naturally straight, but I'd wanted to curl it to bring out its volume. Something went wrong with the hair curler though and instead it came out in weird curls all over the place. I sighed. "What am I going to do with my hair?" Mom shrugged. "I like it." "Of course you do, you're my Mom," I rolled my eyes but smiled to show her I was only joking. "Tell you what," she said, taking a hold of my hair. She narrowed her eyes at my reflection thoughtfully, and then held my hair iron. She briskly closed it on some of my hair, and what I thought would end in complete disaster actually turned to be… kinda nice. My supposedly-curly hair descended in waves, adding a sort of peacefulness to my overall look. After my Mom finished, she set down the hair iron and grinned triumphantly at my reflection. "take a look!" she said. "Mom, thank you!" I couldn't help but jump from my chair and give her a hug. "Wow," she said, her voice coming out a little hoarsely from how tight I was squeezing her. "This date must mean a lot to you."

"Yes. Yes it does." I said briefly after letting her go and sat down to add the final touches before Swayam arrived. Mom only rolled her eyes at me with a small smile and walked out of the room, whistling. After reapplying my lipstick and adding some perfume, the doorbell rang. With a new panicked frenzy, I quickly grabbed my phone and ran quickly downstairs – well, as quickly as anyone could while wearing heels – trying to reach the door before my Dad could. "I'm leaving!" I yelled out shortly before opening the door – and seeing the sexiest guy anyone had ever laid eyes on. He was dressed in a simple dark grey t-shirt and jeans with some black vans and a black hoodie. His black hair was messed-up in that usual cute way, and his brown eyes smiled at me. "Hey," he greeted with his usual grin. He took a second to look at me, and added, "You look… wow." "Thanks," I blushed. "You look wow yourself."

I thought I saw a hint of a blush on his cheeks too. "Thanks." He then looked down at his hands, which were carrying a small bouquet of flowers. "Oh, uh, these are for you." I took them from his extended hands and grinned when I saw that they were red roses. "Aw," I couldn't help but say, taking in its scent. "I love roses. Thank you." "You are welcome," he smiled. Looking behind me, I saw my Mom standing at the bottom of the stairs, looking at me with amusement. I gave them to her and mouthed "Water". Understanding, she nodded, and with a wink, sauntered casually to the kitchen. "My Mom will put them in some water," I informed him, stepping out to the front porch and closing the door behind me.

"So, uh," he started, rubbing the back of his neck nervously, "ready to go?" "Yep, let's go," I said. He held out his arm and I put my hand into the crook of his arm, and he led me to his black Honda. He even made my day when he opened the passenger door for me and said, "After you." "Aw, you're such a gentleman," I teased, getting into the car. Closing my door, he headed to the driver's seat and buckled in. Swayam seemed a bit upset and I asked him "what wrong swayam?" "as tonight's valentines night all the places are dead full and no table even when I tried to book so I have something else planed out I have no idea if u would enough it." He replied. "Place isn't important swayam as long as my first date is with you" I replied to which I saw him smile his eyes twinkling.

"Where are we going?" I sighed. We'd left the house a few minutes ago, Swayam claiming he had a better place for us to go. I'd guessed the movies, his house, McDonalds – yes, that's how short of guesses I was – and the beach, which I thought was close since the coastline of Mumbai beach was right beside us. But he'd just had that mischievous smile and told me that my guesses were wrong. The mischievous smile was back. "You'll see." Instead of just torturing myself, I stayed quiet and waited until we arrived wherever we were going. My eyes snapped to focus when I was engulfed in bright lights. I squinted against the sudden light, and recognized the dock. "A carnival?" I said in disbelief, remembering that one was said to open in a few days. "You're kidding, right?" "Nope," he said shortly, unbuckling and getting out of the car. He came and opened my door for me, and I got out. "But it hasn't even opened yet," I pointed out as Swayam closed the door. "My Dad knows the owner, so he set us up." He explained. "Everything is up and running, and it's only gonna be me and you." "No way!" I grinned like a maniac, running to the entrance excitedly and getting in. "This is so cool!" I exclaimed as I surveyed the area. There were the regular game booths, vending machines, corn dog stands, and there was even a roller coaster and a brightly lit Ferris wheel. I guess whoever were working here were informed of our arrival. "I've never been to a carnival before."

I finally said walking deeper into the carnival. "So, what do you wanna do first?" He scanned the area, where we were currently surrounded by machine games. "Basketball?" "Come on," I slumped my shoulders dramatically. "Seriously?" "Okay, tell you what," he said. "How about we play a game of our own. We tell each other stuff that we could never say as 'just friends'. Sounds good?" It sounded very good. "Awesome then." I grinned, and we started heading towards the basketball game machine thing whatever it was. Aaron said that we didn't need coins or a card, and we just pressed start, and the balls fell towards us. Grabbing one, I said, "I'll go first. I've been obsessed with dates ever since I was eleven."

"Didn't know that one," he chuckled as we throw basketballs and missed horribly. "Okay, me. Remember when I told you that I went to football camp that summer?" "Yeah," I said, throwing a ball that and missing the hoop by an inch."I lied. I went to Dance camp." I couldn't help but laugh and turn to him. "No way." "Yeah," he laughed with me, but I could see a hint of a blush on his cheeks as he grabbed a ball. "Your turn." I'd scored a ball, and hollered in triumph as we high-fived. "Whenever I meet a cute guy, I'd always compare him to you." "Seriously?" his eyebrows shot up, but he was grinning. "Yep," I told him as he shot another ball. "And you'd always win." "Well, that's cute," he smiled warmly. "Y'know, sometimes I'd dream about you in the most random times." "You do?" I couldn't help the smile that made it to my face at the thought of Swayam dreaming about me. "Yeah. You'd always be wearing a dress and just look so cute." "You're so sweet," I blushed, forgetting the basketball game momentarily. Apparently, Swayam's Dad said that the carnival would open just for us, but it would also close at scheduled time, even if Swayam and I weren't done with our date yet. We'd gotten out with cotton candy in our hands, and thanked the manager. Since my curfew wasn't until 11pm and it was only nine something, we decided to take a nightly walk on the beach since it was so close. "So," Swayam broke the comfortable silence we were in as I finished the last of my cotton candy. "Was your first date how you imagined it?" I thought about it. Whenever I'd imagine my first date, I'd be wearing a very expensive and posh dress, my hair would be perfect, we'd be dining at the finest restaurant in town and he'd kiss me on my front porch goodnight. Realizing that that seemed nothing like the date I just had, I shook my head. "No," I said bluntly. He looked disappointed when I said that, but I then grinned. "It was much, much better." I guess it didn't really matter where I had my first date; what I was wearing, how my hair looked like, how popular the place was, etc. What really mattered was the person I was going with. It wasn't the perfect place. My hair was a mess. The timeline wasn't perfect. But I didn't care about any of these things because Swayam was perfect. Even though I now found the whole first date thing ridiculous, Swayam didn't. He was just so amazing, and hot, and he had the most gorgeous eyes and I know he had a six pack under that shirt and – Whoa, drifted off topic there. Sorry about that. Satisfied with my answer, he took my hand in his and said, "Anything for my girl."

"So," I blushed, "I'm your girl?" "Only if you want to," he said softly. "So… do you?" His innocent boy charm never ceased to make my heart fly. I grinned, and leaned a bit to kiss him on the cheek. "Does that answer your question?" He grinned, and that mischievous glint was back in his eyes. Before I could comment on that, he put his foot in front of mine, and I tripped. He caught me before I could fall face first into the sand, but he let go of the power in his legs and we both tumbled down to the sand, laughing. I landed on top of him, his arms holding me. When the impact was over we were still laughing, but Swayam had pulled himself together and sat up, me still on his lap. Our laughter died a little bit as we stared into each other's eyes. He then started leaning in, his eyes drifting to my lips every so often. I let go of everything around me, and focused only on him, his eyes, and his lips. Our lips touched, and it was like fireworks. My stomach did a little pitter-pat as his lips moved against mine. It was just so right, so amazing. We did kinda have to let go after a while since there was this thing called oxygen. "I love you," I stated bluntly. I was grinning like crazy by now. "I love you too." Sighing contently, I said, "I guess my luck is finally looking up."

As if on cue, I felt something soft land on my head. Drip after drip, small droplets of water started raining down on us. Swayam laughed when we looked up and established that it was now raining. "Spoke too soon, Sharon," he started getting up, holding my hand to pull me up with him. "Come on, let's go." "Wait," I grabbed his arm as he turned to go, turning him back to me. The rain was falling harder now, and we were already drenched. "You wanna know what else I like?"

"You wanna finish that game now?" he said incredulously, pushing back his wet hair. I only smiled at him. "I like kissing in the rain." An expression of understanding flashed across his face, and he grinned. Bringing his hands up to cup my cheeks, he bent down and captured my lips with his. I felt water run through my hair and dress, but I couldn't care less. So maybe my dress wasn't perfect. Maybe my hair was now ruined. Maybe we didn't have a gourmet dinner. And if I told my friends about the carnival being my date sight, they'd laugh and tease me endlessly. Swayam might have gone to better places and better dates than this, but I didn't care. Because to me, tonight was perfection.
