ok friends here is my next update.

hope u all will like it. 😊

Opinion about Administration of Magadh

Chanakya spoke what he felt about the administration of Magadh and felt very bad about it.

Katyayan ji said: "I totally agree with you, Chanakya! I'm glad my old university has sharpened your intellect and broadened your vision. Magadh is on the brink of a breakdown.

Im not Shaktar or your father to collide against a rock without assessing their strength. Perhaps I don't have that much courage to sacrifice my life for the sake of conviction."

Chanakya heard an echo of Pundarikaksha's thoughts in Katyayan's words! Infact they drank from the same fount of learning.

Reminding near and Dear

Changing the topic Katyayan ji asked: "But what are your future plans, Chanakya!"

Talk of future reminded Chankya about Suvas. Chanakya asked: "Is the Mahamatya still alive? Where is his family?"

Katyayan replied: "He is still in the prison, in a secluded cell underground. Though I have not met him, I learnt that his life is worse than death. Unfortunately, all his sons and his wife have died. They couldn't put up with the hardships that they had to undergo."

Chanakya asked: "And Suvasini?"

"She survives, but almost as a concubine of Rakshas. That Philanderer exploited her helplessness to the hilt. Maybe, the love of life made her stoop low" replied Katyayan and rather painfully.

Chanakya felt as though deadly venom was being poured into his ears.

Katyayan ji said rather Sympathetically: "Chanakya! I am indeed sorry to have given you that earing information. But you must not forget that you are not alone in your suffering. Harden your heart!

There are many who were crushed by this vile rule. Look at me! Iam not happy either. What did Senapati Maurya receive?"

Senapati Maurya

Chanakya asked: "I too heard of his being dispossessed of his authority while I was at Takshila. Where is he now? Is he alive?"

"Yes but far away in a godforsaken place, called Pipplikanan (Pipplivanam). Despite being the commander-in-chief he was powerless. Nanda killed his father. He was the lone survivor amongst the old guards. He had to leave Pataliputra and settle so far away."

Chanakya repeated "Pippilikanan, is it not the place situated amidst dense jungles teeming with peacocks. If I am not mistaken, the family of the Senapati originally hailed from that village."

Katyayan replied: "Yes'. That's right. Owing to their belonging to the place teeming with the 'mors' (Peacocks) they have this epithet 'Maurya' attached to their names.

It is a comparatively safe place and we often exchange messages and also I help him secretly. But you didn't tell me what you propose to do now?"

Future Plans

Chanakya replied: "I'm brooding over my offers. If I go back to Taxila, I'd be failing to help my tormented motherland. But at the same time I can't stay here, can I?"

Katyayan replied: "I feel you must stay. I think you can redeem our motherland, you are the man with right thinking, right age and right approach."

Chanakya asked: "but suppose I stay here, won't Nanda get me eliminated because of my leaning and lineage? If I had to stay here in Magadh, I shouldn't have run away to Takshila as I did about a decade ago!"

Katyayan replied: "Then the conditions are different. Now Nanda is not that hostile to Brahmans. He has renewed giving scholarships to learned Brahmans through the influence of Rakshas. So in a couple of days I will take u to the King."

Though Chanakya was not quite satisfied with this suggestion, he kept quite as he cannot say not to Katyayan.

Note: Next post will be about C face to face with Nanda...

hi friends here is my next update About Chanakya in the royal court of Dhananand

Face to Face with Nanda after a Decade

Katyayanji informed Chanakya that king would grant interview to the new 'Snataks' and give them scholarships.

When Chanakya arrived the royal court with Katyayan ji on the appointed day, he grew nostalgic while passing through the same veethis and the raj path where he used to roam about quite freely a decade ago.

He had been to the royal court once duing his earlier stay, on the occasion of vasantotsav.

He saw Rakshas occupying the seat of Mahamatya Shaktar, who looked dazzled and careless like his king Nanda.

While the new graduates were being presented before the king, ------- the ceremony was disrupted by the arrival of a messenger from Panchanadpradesh.

Bowing before the king the messenger said: "Your Majesty! The arrogant Parvateswar has rejected your proposal for the marriage of your daughter, princess kalyani with his son."

Nanda drunken and with slurring voice blurted "Why? Did he give any reason."

When the messenger kept quite the king's voice again boomed "Answer my question!"

"He said that he would not let his son marry a girl of low parentage."

Suddenly, the viciousness of the king surface on his face and spoke "That hoodlum had the temerity to say this, to refuse this offer from the mighty Magadh!"

Accosting his prime minister he ordered "Mahamatya! We must teach that mountain mouse a lesson. What do you suggest?"

Rakshas, a man of arts, never favoured wars and invasions. He was cursing himself for allowing the messenger to come into the open court and give this response, hurting Nanda's most vulnerable sensitivity. He was busy in rehearsing the play staged on vasantotsava and that made him arrive late at the court. But he was a pastmaster in evading issues. He said: "Maharaj! We may discuss it in our cabinet meeting later. But I think first we should grant scholarships to these new graduates."

"Without testing their Knowledge! No…….. Katyayan, you must test their knowledge!"

"Maharaj! They have all come from recognized and renowned institutions. Some of them are from Takshila," Katyayan replied.

All this while Chanakya kept quite but he found Rakshas looking at him closely. 'I think he recognized me.'

Looking at Rakshas, Chanakya remindedof Suvas and the memory of Suvas, his whole childhood….. his father, his another painful memories flashed through his mind!

But Chanakya controlled his emotions and listening carefully what Nanda was saying.

"From Takshila also! Good! I think those who are coming from that area must be knowing the conditions prevailing in the Panchanadpradesh, which is quite close to Takshila. Katyayan ……. Who are they? Let me ask them myself."

Dhananand Insults and Chanakya takes Partigya

Though Katyayan wanted Chanakya not to be singled out from the batch but Rakshas exposed Chanakya by saying: "Come here Vishnu! I have recognized you. Tell our king about the conditions of Panchanadpradesh."

The king asked: "How do you know him Mahamatya?"

"Maharaj! I know him very well. He is the son of Chanaky…. Your good self might remember the stubborn Brahman!"

"Yes ………. I do remember well that beastly fellow!" the king admitted.

Chanakya couldn't just tolerate ti. He came forward and declared: "A Brahman can't be beastly for he makes man out of a beast. He is eve kind and considerate. He looks after everyone's welfare, he guides kings and rulers and therefore he can't be beastly. Beasts are those who gibbet a noble Brahman's head on the banyan tree."

Nanda grew furious at this allusion to the old gory episode. He thundered, all of a sudden

Ok so here are the dialogues of Nanda and Chanakya in hindi: hope u will like this J

"Chup kar o dusht brahman! Tera itna dussahas ki tu Hamare arthat Magadhpati Dhananand ke samaksh khade hokar aisa kutark kare! Hum aise paapi ko ek bhooti kaudi tak nahin de sakte! Shama aur Sahayata toh door ki baat hai!"

Katyayan was signaling Chanakya to be quite and quit but he couldn't.

His pent up vengeance burst forth like the gushing lava from a Volcano and spoke in anger:"dhitkaar hai aisi sahayata par... ye soch kar ahemkaar mat karo ki hum Brahman tumhare diye huye tukdon par palte hain... Hum Brahman hain.. Brahman…. koi parjeevi nahin... aur ek brahman sahi aur galat ke beech ka antar bahut achchi tarah samajhta hai."

The last remark made the king blow up. He stood up and ordered thunderingly: "Sainikon! Is dusht Brahman ki shikha pakad kar le jaao aur ise kalkothri mein band kar do! Aur shaam hothi hi isse mriytudand diya jaaye"

Two gaurds came rushing at Chanakya and tried to hold him by the crown hair, the only bunch of hair, his 'Shika'.

The Chanakya roared: "Yaad rakhna Dhananand! Mein Vishnugupt Chanakya aaj ee shikha khol ke pratigya loonga ki jab thak mein thuje Magadh ki sinhasan se hata nahin loonga aur uspar aisi vyakthi ko bitha deta jo Magadh ke saath saath Akahand bharath ka sapna dekhe, tab tak mein apni shikha nahi bandhunga. Ye meri pratigya hai!"

Freed from Gallows

Chanakya was cursing himself. 'I shouldn't have been so short-tempered. Better still I shouldn't have gone to the court of Nanda.' But how could a son tolerate his dead father being reviled so blatantly.

Now with his imminant departure to the gallows, all his dreams of fulfilling the promises he made to his mentor Pundarikaksha looked meaningless.

Underestimating the strength of enemy and overassessing his capacity for patience caused this debacle. But Chanakya did not lose heart. For he had a great faith in the prediction of that sage Dandayan: 'No…….. I can't die!' he murmured under his breath.

He was alert listening to some sound. He don't want to die in that dark cell much less by a snake bite.

When he was thinking of all these, a tiny door which was the only opening was opened and a man with a little lamp with its shallow light entered.

Speaking in whispers the stranger said: "Don't be afraid. I have been sent by Katyayan ji. Come quickly with me, soundlessly!"

Following the stranger sliding through total darkness for a short while, Chanakya foung himself in open space. The coolness of the breeze told him that he was near the river.

He took him to a tied boat. "Go across the river by this boat. On the other bank you will find a temple. Katyayan ji said you know it well. There the priest will help you. He is also your old acquaintance. And take this bundle. It contains some necessary things and a letter for you by Katyayan ji. Let me go now!"

Chanakya untied the boat and began to row it slowly. He started to wonder on the course of his destiny. He remembered clearly how about a decade ago he traversed the same path. But unlike the last time he was glad to escape alive.

He wanted to go straight to Takshila, his real home but he cannot disregard Katyayan ji's words as he had saved his life twice. Chanakya was curious to read the letter sent by Katyayan ji but couldn't as it was dark night.

Reaching the temple he found that the grisly looking priest waiting for him with a horse!

"Why a horse?" Chanakya asked and got the reply: "the rest of the instructions are in that letter you have in the package."

Chanakya then took out the letter and started to read:

"Dear Chanakya,

I am worried for you. But I request you not to go towards Takshila straightway. You can't be sure of the traps that they might have laid for you. Better go to Pippilikanan (Pippilivan). It is quite a safe place. Moreover, I don't want you to be so far away that I am not able to contact you. In pippilivan, stay in Maurya's house. I would be sending you another message in about a couple of months' time. In case you don't receive my message, take it that I'm dead. Then you are free to go wherever you want.

---Kaytayan"

'That's why he has arranged a horse for me,' thought Chanakya.

Journey to Pippilikanan

"With this horse you might reach Pippilivan by night fall," said the priest. So he also knows where I am going, he mused. He spoke again: "Have some snacks and take something for the journey too before you leave. Head towards Ishan (Northeast) direction. Dawn is still about two ghatis (about an hour) away."

Chanakya mounted the horse and sped away. But the journey was far from comfortable. The horse was quite troublesome. He continued riding, unmindful of the discomforts and also enquiring about the correct direction.
