friends we had discussed lots of historical debates and confusions on chandragupta maurya earlier...but there is also another confusion or debate regarding his birth year...i found the historians who followed jain texts said his birth year is around 345 b.c...and when he met alexandar he was 18 years old...and when became king was 25 years old...romila thapar is one of such historians

but historians who followed budhist texts and greek chronology...they say cgm's birth year is on 340 b.c..r.k.mukherjee..r.c.majumdar are among them..according to whom cgm was very young when he met alexandar and became king at the age of 20

so i am asking all my knowledgeable history lover fellow cgm members what do you think about this ..according to you what would be his actual birth year...come on friends share your knowledge with all sources you have consulted...

Heya aru
after a long time there is something worth to discuss on the forum 😊 ...but lets first clarify to everyone that the discussion here is not related or compared with the show..we r discussing cgm's history and its limited to that only and we r not proud of any knowledge but we r proud of our rich indian history 😊

now...acc. to indian constitution majority wins...and majority of texts and historians support 340 b.c. theory..and technically as well as mathematically it gels very easily with other timelines of that era...for ex..birthdate of bindusar asoka ..death date of alexander etc. etc...and in ncert also 340 bc is mentioned 🤔
and aru...acc to jain texts i find many things hard to digest...for ex- there its written that dhanna insulted chanakya for his looks and so he took the oath to dethrone him...but i find it suspicious if we consider chanakya's character sketch...he wud never give so much priorities to personel things...but if we put another theory...that c could have asked help of nanda to save india from alex..and then he wud hav been insulted and took the oath..it sounds more relevant to me...and also in jain text its mentioned that chanakya put bindusar in a goats womb to complete the cycle of nine months after his mom died...i mean i was shocked after reading that..is it really possible...waise acharya hain toh hone ko toh kuch bhi ho sakta hai 😕 ...but as a whole i find 340 bc birth of cgm more relevant...i'd love to know others opinion and take on this confusion 😕🤔

romila thapar ki toh baat hi mat kar aru..mere muh se phool jhadne lagenge 😆 we can find thousand loop holes in her theories...she has also questioned cgm and helen's marriage...acc to her indians considered greeks as 'malech'...they cant even eat with them...so how can a marriage alliance happened...but alliance happened and its only marriage of cgm which has solid historical proofs...magasthenes indica itself is a big proof...cgm cud b mahananda's son but not dhananand...and i will go with majority votes of cgm being a peacock tamer...what do u think aru..acc. to u which theory fits d best ...i m toh again confused 😉 😆

maine padha tha ki CG was born in peacock tamers community...Thats why ''Maurya''...
he was then taken by a cowherd and he sold him to a shikari...after which chanakya found him..

And another is lyk he is Dhannu and Mura's son.😕
iam also confused...😕

lol yar there is some one in this if who only blindly follows romila thapar...but romila thapar is not famous for her work on cgm..she is famous for her work on asoka and ofcourse origin of arians

well mujhe r.c.majumdar , r.k.mukherjee , d.d koshambi..pr is mamle mein jyada varosa hai..in sabke theories mein hi peacock tamer ko jyada reliable mana gaya..

even i read somewhere greek historian plutarch is also saying when cgm met alex he was a very young kid...

ab plutarck k lie alex ka history janna more easy hoga na??aur hamare lie uspar depend karna easy hoga...aur is theory k anusar bhi 340 b.c ko hi manna padega...

yes aru...plutarch's theory feels accurate and relevant after reading...and not only plutarch but many other historians alongwith the one u mentioned hav based theories on 340 b.c...but if someone is following just one historian and that too blindly ...so we should better say no comment 😆
