Durdhara

Durdhara was only queen of Chandragupta Maurya whom he loves more than his very life. She Was daughter of His Maternal Uncle Vishwambhar of kaushmbhi. Vishwambhar was a local landlord of kaushambi. Even Before Chandragupt was King ,he fell in love with Durdhara. Durdhara was a naive and innocent girl aged between 15 to 17 years. She was born and brought up as a commoner in Kaushambhi. She was totally unaware of politics and warfare tactics befitting an King.
The moment Chandragupt became an able King,he was swarmed by lots of proposals of marriage from all over Bharatvarsh. But Our King,did not betray his ladylove. Chandragupt married Durdhara in a simple marriage without much pomp and flare.
Hardly 10 days have past after their marriage and now both of them are coming to seek Chanakya's audience . Chandragupt has bought with himself jewels and silken cloths belonging to Parvarteshwara.

Chandragupt placed the things he bought before Chanakya and in a reverent tone " greetings Acharya".Durdhara too saluted the Acharya.
Chanakya" Yashaswi Bhava.." and turning to Durdhara " Deerga sumangli bhave"
Chanakya" Putri..Is my son treating you well. This boy does not know anything regarding love and family. He knows only to wage a war. Its your responsibility to make him understand the duties pertaining to householder. Iam confident Putri ,you are going to achieve this goal.

Durdhara smiled coyly by looking into Chandra through side long eyes.
Chandra was simply amazed by her looks.
Chanakya observered them and felt happy for them. He thought"May lord keep them happy and blissful always".
Chanakya "Sangrava take this items inside and keep it in locker room. You have to be very careful ... Dont take it out until I say to do so.
Chanakaya" Chandragupt... I am very happy to hear that people are on your sides. They worship you. You should not fail them.
Chandragupt" Acharya.. For me my subjects are first priority. I have nothing personal before their well being.But iam afraid,whether I have learn displeasure of my people,after the vishkanya attack on Parvarteshwara
Chanakya "No son.. I have handled the situation ,,, You need not worry about that.
Chandragupt" Sir,can you please give me guidelines on duties of King

1. Chanakya "I am happy to know your eagerness putra.Let me list out King should be diligent and ever watchful .
2. He should Understand the thoughts of his subjects through various machinations.
3. King should not sleep more than 3 hours in a day .
4. He should not trust everyone nor doubt them. He should be very careful in choosing spies.
5. He should not insult his servants and treat them very kindly. If das becomes an enemy,then its going to be very risky.
6. King should ensure that his subjects are happy. Their happiness is the index of your success as King. Its easy to win a Kingdom,but to sustain Its difficult.
7. Never keep work,loan,fire without vanquishing it completely. Because even little fire can burn entire forest. Little loan can lead to Bankruptcy.Small unfinished work can pave way to heaps of work.

Chanakya suddenly observed that Durdhara was looking into some corner of the room.
He enquired "Durdhara... Are we boring you putri"
Durdhara became very tense since Chandra already started to frown at her. She immediately stood up and folded her hands
"Acharya ,I am asking my apologies. I never intended to insult you "
"Insult..Putri..who said anything about Insult"
Durdhara was quiet
Chanakya "Putri,I am your father. No need of this much reverence towards your father.Just say me what kept you engrossed in a thought.Is anything there speak child without fear .
Durdahra "Acharya,this room is infested with cockroaches and cobwebs .I was thinking about that only.
Chanakya took look around his room" Yes ,my putri.. this room is unkept and untidy. what to do, afterall I am a bachelor brahman. Sangrava too is unwise in household chores. You are right Its indeed full of cockroaches. How many times we tried to eliminate it starts invading us.. Do you have any idea
Durdhara in a very soft tone"Acharya,in our place there was a weaver. Whenever he buys new silk threads,his room will be infested by cockroaches. So he used to burn the part of his houses where there was colonies of cockroaches.
Chanakya "Putri.. You have provided me wonderful solution. Not only my room,entire Magadh is going to be benefited by this solution.Look Chandra ,I was correct. Did you remember ,my words,never marry a girl who does not know household chores, however much she may be beautiful. Women are wiser than men. See ,Durdhara gave me a solution to a problem which was haunting me since morning.

I loved this update very much Avantika. Durdhara is very calm, simple and wise. She produces an instant effect on anyone she meets. I am glad that Chandra has such a good companion like her in his life. Similarly, I was happy to see the normally serious Acharya Chanakya talk with her in that friendly and welcoming manner. She is new to this palace, its customs. So she had to be put at ease. She should not feel overawed by her surroundings or feel like a misfit. I was happy that Chanakya appreciated her for indirectly giving an idea to him on how to deal with the situation in Magadh through her words about cockroaches and pests. Only a girl who understands and takes care of her home can win the world. But there was one portion I found a bit disappointing. Chandra should try to understand Durdhara. She is new here. Just because he found her turning to the other side for some reason while he and Chanakya were talking, he cannot assume that she meant it as an act of disrespect. He cannot be judgmental and prejudiced against her at the slightest pretexts like this. Rewriting a classic Sanskrit text like this is not an easy task. You are doing great! Keep up the good work.

Loved Durdhara. She is calm and wise... perfect for being a queen. Chanakya treats her just like his own daughter, and their relationship is very like a cordial father-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship. And loved reading Chanakya's points on a king's duty. Especially the last one is very apt for everyone. ⭐️
