This, however, has two disadvantages. One, the parallel is not exact, and so the fury of Chandragupta's reaction seems rational, and not in the least excessive given the enormity of her crime. So it lacks the punch of Jalal's edgy, dangerous, almost out of control snarling.

Two, Nandini's reaction is not a patch on the blank terror in Jodha's eyes, the first and last time she was really terrified of Jalal. This girl cannot dredge up even fear, not to speak of the far stronger reaction the scene calls for.

As for me, I thought the whole shebang of Chandra lugging this female up to the bath and scrubbing her down himself was ludicrous. I am sure she weighs a good bit, these short, plumpish women often do, and I felt sorry for poor Rajat.😉That apart, it seemed bizarre for him not to simply alert Avantika to what had happened and leave it at that. That is what any normal person in his place would have done. It was all so contrived and stupid. If this is the CVs idea of involuntary romance, they should think again.

I think he thought initially that there had been a plot against Nandini, but by precap time, he must have learnt otherwise from Helen's mamma dearest. Now she is a delight!

And how slow acting this so-called poison was! Totally useless, for after a good long while, all it does is to blister Durdhara's hands. She is not dead by any manner of means, so how was Nandini expecting to dispose speedily to a much bigger and heavier Chandragupta thru the same kind of osmosis via the skin? In a similar situation is CAS, the chemical used was an acid that immediately began to char the skin. Of course the script had to be full of holes here!

'Aunty helena's mummy has already herself in my fav list... her character is now so interesting to watch for😉... only i disapproved her weird looking wig.😕... but nevermind..

Aunty true to say as i watched the eps.. the whole purpose of marriage seems totally insensitive and useless to me and the most tragic thing is that the advice came from Chanakya Himself... Nandini herself is now a danger for Chandra's life and despite of knowing the whole fact he was forcing chandra for the marriage... I still can't understand that what raajnaitik labh chandra would acquire from this marriage rather than inviting dangr upon himself... nd how this marriage supposed to save him from Nanda's attack?!... Rather than installing a tight security around magadh and samrat a great strategist like him is putting his faith on a vivaah?... I was dissapointed when he said that Nand would never be able to make her daughter widow... ohh does he really think so?!.. as far as it concerned even a common man would get that Padmanand wouldn't take a single min to slash Chandra's head without caring about the thing that he is her daughter's husband... after all killing Chandra would be the solution of his all problem... and even her daughter would happily embrace the widowhood I guess...
and why does chandra need to marry her?! they are imprisoned by him and he can do anything he want with them... was not the cause enough as precaution against Nand?!
I knew really well that the maariage was invitable but never thought that they would come up with such a weak reason...anyway i would stop my complaining now... lets talking about the good thing... Rajat looking extremely good as Raja Chandragupta maurya... the rajya-abhisek episode shined fpr his performance. Well I was not happy with Mura's dosti ka hath towards avantika but neverthless she was not in total mahan mode and her attitude was good in the whole scene... Nandini's Roasted Poison Extraction method was hilarious... (I suddenly remembered about Mata Dharma from CAS here... If she was there with her most effective maha mrityunjay mantra then the poor ladies doesn't have to do such effort..😆😆)...

Helena mom now is a good lady but later when chandra falls for nandini will be main villan aka maham anga

Well I dont have any problem with Helena's being negative mom still her character is entertaining even with negative shades... and sometimes i found negative shaded characters filled with wittyness are much better thing to watch rather than bhashan giving so called strong heroines heroines whose plans back fires on them... nd well helena's mother is allreadya negative character in show but i am admiring her wityness

Aunty Prem made a post on 'Why men love badass women?" refering to Nandini and not perhaps women like Durdhara and Helena who are in every other way acceptable. I told him that rather than a character or his love for a lady, it was the penchant of the CVs to make somebody like Chandra like a girl like Nandini preferring her over a Durdhara or Helena. Such a thing would never happen in real life. It happens only on reel and in fiction. The ideas of the CVs regarding a grand, intense, and passionate star-crossed love story will never take off with the likes of someone like Durdhara or Helena. I am pasting my reply to that topic here:

" Prem to tell the truth in reality no husband would tolerate a wife like Nandini leave alone loving her. He will love a girl like Durdhara or Helena. Durdhara is very good and childlike. So she will always be liked and esteemed as a companion by any man! If a man cannot and does not love a girl like he must be a fool! Chandra too loves and cares for Durdhara. At least that is what I felt! He does not realize what he feels for her is love, but to tell you the truth, it is love, and that too two-sided and reciprocal.

What Chandra feels for Helena could be trust, reliance and the partnership of two equals. But it is an extremely positive and constructive kind of emotion that he feels for both the ladies, Durdhara and Helena. Helena is narcissistic but all the same she supports her husband in times of distress and truly cares for him! Any man might overlook her giving importance to her desires, preferences, and priorities first before she looks into other's priorities, desires, or preferences!

After all it is not a crime to love yourself first and foremost; provided you have the space and magnanimity to love somebody else along with your own self, and have some space and concern for their interests as well! So as long as she loves him and his interests too, many men might not have a problem even with a woman like Helena.

But Nandini is a class apart! The poor chap will not even survive to hate her, leave alone love her! This is just a reel, fictional story! Love in real life is very different. But I suppose it hardly makes an interesting story for the CVs of a TV show! They thrive on drama and for that they need a Nandini. A Durdhara or Helena will hardly fit their bill of an ideal TV heroine on whom they can spin reams and reams of imagination!

Ordinary people like you and me cannot find it in us to understand the 'Amar Prem Gatha' of TV CVs with characters like Nandini, the love-hate tirades, the Saas Bahu and Sautan dramas which such ladies make possible in their script! Such hatred as Chandra and Nandini can sink into indifference at the maximum! There are all possibilities that the hatred on both sides will remain the same throughout their lives. But such intense passionate hate turned to love happen only in stories not real life.

So if we take the relationship of Chandra and Nandini on the show per say, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that some people rub us the wrong way or bring out the worst in us. Chandra and Nandini are doing that to each other. It is not just the case of their being polar opposites or enemies due to circumstances, it goes much beyond that. They see each other as a threat to that bit of their self identity that both of them hold very dear and close to their heart. They perceive it as being snatched from them when they are in proximity. They lose track of what and who they are. They lose their bearings. Hence they behave so viciously with each other.

I will narrate a small story which I feel will describe both Chandra and Nandini aptly at the present moment. There were two kites flying in the sky. They were flying high up above the rest of the kites. They could have peacefully coexisted at the top if they had wanted. But each kept tugging and pulling in the opposite directions because of course each kite felt that it was right and the other kite wrong. They fought, they reasoned, they argued, but the pity, they did not let go the quarrel and move on.

They were stuck with the kite whose tendencies and behavior they hated the most. They could not tolerate nor give the other kite the space to fly in its own sky; and in inhibiting the other kite, their own movements were getting restricted. They kept coming closer and closer though this proximity suffocated both the kites. After a time both kites stopped their own flight and stated trying to prevent the other from flying.

Finally both of them got entangled and yet they kept on fighting and resisting the other. The threads which secured the two kites started becoming a tangled and jumbled mass. Still neither of the kites would give up! The threads snapped! Finally both the kites fell to the ground in one corner each gathering dust but still tied to each other due to the tangled and jumbled mass of knots. They spent the rest of their lives and time fighting and cribbing with each other.

Prem you are free to apply this story to Chandra and Nandini as they are on the show now and draw whatever conclusions and morals you like from it!"

Dear Shyamala ji, although I was speaking in lighter vein here, I absolutely agree that this was one of the very finest JA episodes. It showed what Rajat is capable of. It would make the shortest of my short-lists to keep and watch over and over.

Dear Anil,
🤣
But he was fabulous in that scene, and of course I went to town in my post for that episode The prayer of hope and the prayer of despair, and for the next one too!

Shyamala Aunty

There we needed one full episode simply for Jalal to visit the mosque, discover that he cannot live without Jodha, and so inform Allah. All of this cannot be accomplished in just a few minutes while Jodha roasts on the grill. 😊

Wasn't it really!😳 I would rate it among the best 5 of the show. My personal favorite has always been Episode 31 where he negotiated with Bharmal. The other 4 in no particular order would be
-The mazhar scene you referred
-The shart
- Adham Khan killing
-The confrontation in Sujamal track that aunty had written in her Shakespearean Heights.

And closely followed by
-The dhakka
-Ratanpur Qila handling with the Rat King
-The astral scene, calling Jodha back to life

My short list.😳

Oh! How many such excellent sequences and performances we had!
And needless to say that Rajat looked extraordinarily handsome in each of them.

But no complaints in CN either.
We've had the swayamvar sequence and the brilliant war sequences. And it has been less than 40 episodes.😊

It is interesting that none of you thinks of one of my all time favourites, Sunlight on a butterfly's wings.

It is far easier to impress the viewers with high voltage dramatics than with something as light and insubstantial as gossamer, but they did it in this episode.

Yes, of these choice Jodha Akbar episodes, only 1, No.31, The Emperor Strikes Back, came within the 37 episodes done here so far. But what seems to be missing here is the promise of something electric, which was always there between Jalal and Jodha in the early days.

This is almost solely due to the heroine. Look at her face in the snippet where she collides with Chandragupta and her ring, with the poison in it, falls to the ground. There is nothing but the same wide-eyed stare and the pressing down on the lower lip, her signature tic.

Whereas there should have been first alarm, then near panic when he picks up the ring, then a fleeting look of cunning as she thinks of the explanation for grabbing the ring from him, and finally relief flooding thru her being as she manages to retrieve the ring and rushes past him. Rajat, in her place, would have showed all these and a couple more as well.

Again when she is standing wondering how Chandra survived the poison. Nothing at all on her face.

It may be too soon for total pessimism, but I am already feeling fatigued. Not so much because what has happened over the last 4 episodes, which I am yet to cover, was so bad, as because there seems to be very little promise of something spectacular ahead.

I dread the prospect of Nand hamming it away ad infinitum, Durdhara descending from childlike charm into plain, babbling idiocy, Helena becoming not just shrewish but stupid, Mura becoming more and more mahaan ( and all for lack of a small snippet showing Chanakya explaining to her why he wants Chandra to marry Nandini), and Nandini, well Nandini carrying on exactly as she has been doing thus far.

Even Rajat, marvellous as he is - just look at the totally different ways in which he reacts to and handles Durdhara and Helena in that little scene of the three together! - cannot carry a show single-handedly.

I am glad that no one has so far been hounding me for the next post, for I really do not feel like doing one at all, except perhaps to clear the accumulating backlog.

In the meantime, I hope that at least the latest tripe shown onscreen will at least push up the TRPs, for no matter how little I like this show as at present, I want it to be a hit for Rajat's sake.
