Thank you so very much, my dear Manasi. The thing is that for the last nearly two years, I seem to have forgotten what it is like to be really healthy, but never mind, I carry on pretty well regardless!

Have a wonderful and safe Deepavali!

My dear Shailaja,

Kindly do not accuse the CN CVs of having been inspired by the divine Jane Austen!😉 It is no such thing. This Nandini is, as of now, a typical 1970s heroine, complete with a doting dad. There has not been any scene or even snippet hinting at any nuances in her character, which I am sure will come some time, but perhaps not soon.

I am glad to know that there is going to be a Durdhara, and the actress looks quite nice. We can have many interesting scenarios with a quadrilateral arrangement.😉

What I like the best for now is the Rishyasaringa avatar for Chandragupta. Rishyasaringa was a young rishi, so detached from the world and its temptations, and so pure of heart, that when he went into a desert, the rains came at once. Well, Chandragupta would not want a slushy battlefield to wade thru😆, but he is doing very well in the detachment department, and his soliloquies are delightful.

PS: The Austen I love is Pride and Prejudice, followed by Sense and Sensibility, with Emma next, and Northanger Abbey and Persuasion limping behind. Mansfield Park is the one I like the least.

But I am a great Walter Scott addict, having cut my reading teeth on his Ivanhoe. One of my proudest possessions is a mint condition, 11 volume, 1892 set of his Waverley novels.

Aunty I can very well see my option two for Nandini materializing on the show. But this girl is an Emma Woodhouse of Emma and Catherine Morland of Northanger Abbey at the very least, if not for my favorites, Lady Macbeth and Catherine de Medici. Even if she had the same report card as those two Austen heroines, it would not be anything great or good to brag about for her excellence of character. These two young ladies had their own inimitable set of flaws.

Looks like we will not get an Elizabeth Bennett of Pride and Prejudice in Nandini. I wonder how blind and conditioned a person can be by circumstances as this girl is. Any sane person would have sensed something wrong in the icy coldness and aloofness of Helena. This girl just blusters along as blind as a bat. Jodha used to resemble Fanny Price of Mansfield Park, another Austen heroine in her moral priggishness, an affinity to fish out a lecture out of her pockets in every five minutes, judgemental nature, and frog in the well mentality. Looks like Ekta and Co. know their Austen well.

Thank you, my darling girl!

I like this new addition to our boy wonder's putative harem.😉 She looks mischievous and mature, which is welcome.

She is of course set to be bumped off when Bindusara is born, or rather birthed, but that is a long way off, and for now, a quadrilateral arrangement with no platonic undertones should be fun. So kindly lay off the perennial Jodha Akbar parallels, even by attributing them to "speculation", like the "informed sources" beloved of journalists!😆

I think Nandini will be the Third Wife, with Durdhara the first and Helen the second, and the history timeline be damned! Wo jiske peeche koyi aur nahin aayi!

Have fun and get safely back to London.

Happy Diwali Periyamma... and all other CN waasiyon

get well soon periyamma..

🤗

I'll catch up on episodes once I'm back in London... so I'll be able to do better justice to your painstaking efforts at this analysis!

Btw,

Just heard Durdhara makes an entry too... 😲
Wonder what RT must be thinking... every serial he signs up for, he's surrounded by three three heroines... 😆 that's the thing with historicals...

Saanvi Talwar... never heard of her before... but compared to SBP and Helena, she looks pretty

There's speculation that she might be like a salima...(and Helena a Ruqs)

But I think that Ekta is keeping he cards open... since this is partly fictional...(and since Ekta likes to do this) she might end up concentrating on one jodi for a while, before moving to another depending on TRPs??? I might be wrong...

Except, my dear Iris, that this is a declaration of intent to comment, not the comments themselves! Never mind, get the wedding festivities over with and then begin with my next one.

No, my pet, nothing so dashing, I am afraid😉. As I wrote to Lashy above,I think Nandini will be the Third Wife, with Durdhara the first and Helen the second, and the history timeline be damned! Wo jiske peeche koyi aur nahin aayi!

Par uske paavan padchchinna Chandragupta ke jeevan mein padhein, uske pehle yeh do aur istreeyan udhar vidhyamaan hongi. Aur in teenon ke beech mein phanskar, bechara, niyati ka maara Chandragupta kisi chauthe vivah ke vishay mein soch bhi nahin saka hoga!😆

As are your remarks on them, my dear succulent friend (though I am a strict vegetarian, so no chicksoup for me!😆).

I think the C&C idea was to kidnap Nandini and use her to force Padmanand to break his ties with the chamchas of the Macedonians, like Parvatak. The visit to the river to light lamps there would be an excellent chance to accomplish this.

But a lot has happened since you and I wrote all this stuff, and the Helena factor now looms large. Also C1 (Chanakya) - C2 would be our Chandragupta - now seems to have switched tracks to some extent, and made a good bit of progress on the conventional route of defeating the invaders on the battlefield. So we have to wait and watch.

I will try and cover the last 3 episodes later today, if I can manage it with my sore eyes.

Thank U for these wonderfully informative articles, Shyamala.😳

Your post- as usual- such a pleasure to dive into! 👏

I found the whole tiger episode quite jarring, as did everyone else. Otherwise, I found this Helena- Malayketu twist quite interesting. Would Helena get married to Chandra to spite both Nandini and Malay?😆 This lady is going to be such a headache for sure! I have a feeling Nandini's wedding would be fixed with Malayketu and Chandra would attack in the nick of time, when he knows about Nand's biggest kamzori.

Actually, how would that Kamzori information aid Chandra in the battle against Nand?
I was under the impression that he would massacre her family and then marry her...but it looks like he will marry the kamzori first and then plan his strategy?

Two things I didn't like much- 1. The actress playing Helena- she should have more screen presence.
2. Chandra covering his face and the whole bee fiasco.

The payal was still OK- I enjoyed the dichotomy here- this is the contrast I am enjoying between the leads.

Nandini intended it to be a service the 'Greek camp' soldier was made to do- (not sure if it was looking down on any soldier as such, since he was in the Greek attire) Chandra made it look like a chivalrous task...and fate has simply decided that was to be another 'rasam' they engaged in unconsciously... On the whole, pleasing to the romantic heart.😉😆 Otherwise, it looked very odd that a princess would allow a common man to even touch her! 😲
