Chandragupta Maurya had married Helena in a political alliance with selecus Nicator. Some historians has opined that there was no such alliance and the phrase meant a sanction of marriage between hellenic world and indians. But that is not correct. If we go by the terms Selecus would never give such a huge territory in return of some elephants and silly alliance of marriage between people.
Helen was barely 16 of 17 when she was married off to chandragupta who was probably 40 or above. The marriage was a Happy one. We don't know about any other queen of chandragupta as sources are lost now except of an obscure legend of Durdhara's death. Maybe Durdhara was not a real name of the queen who died as the Indian sources rarely mentioned real name of the royal queens. Well, there was no rivarly between Durdhara and Helena as both never met each other. Durdhara was long dead when chandragupta married Helena. She was of same age as Bindusara. Bindusara maintained highly diplomatic relations with hellenic world but it was influenced by notions of peace, trade and safety of the empire. It is said that chandragupta was highly impressed by selecus's bravery in the battle and keeping in mind the advantages of peaceful relations with hellenic world he made this treaty. The treaty was negotiated by Indian side as the loser side of Seleucids was not in position of proposing any.
Nothing is known of Helen's political influence but she had a good cultural influence in mauryan court. Many ladies from Babylon came with her to serve the new Mauryan queen. She was very beautiful and regal. By the time she married Chandragupta chanakya had lost a measure amount of his influence on the emperor still the bond was still alive as megasthenes mentions.
So, the Conclusion is that she was a classy lady of regal behaviour and elegance which is shown in the serial but she was not A VAMP. Chandragupta had no love story with her but it does not mean there was no love. India was far richer than Greece and Babylon. She must have been happy here well megesthenes was. 😆
