Chapter 3
Viren had returned home, after almost 15 years. He had recently completed his studies and was now a qualified software engineer. He had not intended to return to Shimla, not at least for another few years. He was hoping to get a job in Delhi and settle down there for a few more years. Siddhart's wedding had forced him to return to Shimla sooner than he had hoped. The Sood family often visited him in Delhi, but Viren had only returned to Shimla a few times in the first couple of year after he had left. He lived with his Nanni in Delhi to begin with, but later moved into his own apartment that his parent had bought him. Though he lived away for so many years he always kept in contact with his family and their relations were still as strong as ever. Siddhart was like an older brother to him, and he wasn't going to miss his wedding for the world. Now that he was back in Shimla he was planning to stay here for a couple of months and then return back to Delhi.
Divya was ten years of age and Nivi was eight, when Viren moved to Delhi. So it was no surprise that they hadn't recognised him. They had never spoken to him after he had left Shimla, and had no idea what he was like. One thing both of them did remember was that as a child he was known for his cheekiness.
He was busy texting when he heard Divya's voice. It didn't take him long to realise who both the girls were; as Divya had introduced herself and he managed to find out who Nivi was. He actually found it very amusing that they both had thought he was a tailor.
Vandanna shook her head looking at him. 'Nivi, Divya. Viren arrived early this morning and has just about wound up everyone, mujhse lekar Nandu tak, kissi ko nehi chora.' The girls looked at Viren in disbelief, he was in hysterics.
Despite his efforts to hold it in, he couldn't stop laughing. 'You two...you two are so funny'. He straightened himself up 'Tai jee, they thought I was their tailor'. Nivi was too shocked to say anything and Divya frowned. 'Oh god I feel so sorry for poor siddharth. I hope you don't mistake the Pandit for Siddharth on your wedding day Divya.' He chuckled.
Divya picked up a cushion from the sofa she was stood by and aimed it towards Viren. It hit Viren on the head and she rushed towards him laughing, ready to hit him. 'Array, what kind of welcome is this?' She held him by the ear, 'You're so cheeky!'
'Okay okay careful Divya don't let your brains go to your head.' He laughed. Divya let go of his ear and gave him a slap on his arm. 'Good to see you though after so long' he giggled and hugged her. Divya shook her head and hugged him back. "You're pagal Viren"
'Come on Divya betta, the tailor needs to get off'. Divya pulled away from Viren 'Yes tai jee.' She walked towards Vandanna and the tailor.
As Divya went over to Vandanna, and the tailor, they all got busy in discussing the outfits. Nivi was standing a few feet away and just watched them. She was really happy to see Viren after all these years but was still feeling rather embarrassed about the remark he had made about her hair. She didn't know what to say to him and just looked at him and smiled as she waited for Divya.
Viren noticed that Nivi was stood there and had said nothing to him. 'Did I offend her?' he thought in his head. He noticed she had just then looked at him and smiled. He walked towards her and cleared his throat. She shook her head and gave him a cheeky smile. 'I'm sorry Rapunzel.' He winked. 'You actually have beautiful hair.' She covered her mouth and started giggling. He took a deep breath 'Shukar hai tum hassi to sahi... I thought you were going to cry.'
He ruffled the back of his hair as she continued laughing. 'Okay! I'm getting worried now, are you actually laughing or crying?' his brows puckered in a frown.
'I'm laughing pagal!' He didn't need her to confirm that, as he already knew she was laughing, but had just said it anyway to break the ice between them. 'Thank god, I really thought you two sisters were going to kill me today.'
Her mouth opened slackly, to show she was surprised. Her eyebrows curved and shot upwards, 'We're not mean like you Viren'. Before he could say anything back, his hand went towards his pocket as he heard his phone ringing. He drew his phone out of his pocket, and answered 'Hey, what took you so long?' He lifted his hand that was free and waggled his fingers to Nivi as he walked away from her. She nodded her head indicating that she understood he was going. After a few minutes Nivi and Divya left the Sood house and made their way home.
