Team Bollywood to play football in Pune

Pune is likely to see a host of Bollywood celebrities make their presence felt for the Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup to be held in the city from today (Feb 27).

Baadshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan, who is passionate about sports (be it hockey or cricket or even football) would be inaugurating the tournament. SRK himself is an avid football player who even captained his school and college team.

Besides this, a host of Bollywood stars like Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Govinda, Dino Morea, Sunil Shetty, Zayed Khan, Kunal Kemmu, Shreyas Talpade and Ranbir Kapoor would be seen kicking ball in a charity match against Pune's team (comprising some well known personalities from Pune) on March 4th .The proceeds of this match (co-organized by the Salman Khan foundation) will go towards AIDS and cancer affected children.

There is more glitter and glamour as actors Nana Patekar and John Abraham are expected to grace the prize distribution ceremony on the concluding day of the tournament on March 8th.

The Abhijit Kadam Memorial Football Cup was started in the year 2003 in memory of late Abhijit Kadam who died in a car accident few years ago. Abhijit (son of Minister Dr.Patangrao Kadam) was an avid football player himself and this is a tribute organized by his father and brother Vishwajeet to groom upcoming football players in Maharashtra.

Well, with the kind of stars expected to attend, the public of Pune are surely going to turn up in large numbers for the love of the game and to have a dekko at their favorite celebs.

King Khan to kick-start football tourney in Pune today

PUNE: After cricket, is Shah Rukh Khan turning his attention to football?

Khan, who recently won the bid for the Knight Riders — the Indian Premier League team from Kolkata — has accepted an invitation to kick-off the fifth edition of the Abhijit Kadam memorial football cup on Wednesday in Pune.

This is not the first time Shah Rukh will be associated with football. His love for the game began early when he was the captain of his school football team, says Vishwajeet Kadam, the managing trustee of the foundation.

In fact, in an interview after having won the bid for the IPL team, Shah Rukh said he was willing to invest in football and hockey in the future.

"We just hope that his presence will be able to create a hockey-like sensation for football too," said Vishwajeet, son of Maharashtra minister Patangrao Kadam.

Referring to how Chak De India "changed the fortunes" of hockey, Vishwajeet said: "Imagine, SRK playing soccer now or buying a football club."

Vishwajeet told DNA that he would "put across the idea", explaining that it required around Rs5 crore.

Bollywood stars Sohail Khan, Fardeen Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Urmila Matondkar, Vivek Oberoi, Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar, and Mahima Choudhary are among those to have made an appearance at the previous editions of the tournament.

Vishwajeet said he sent a letter to Shah Rukh in January, inviting him to be the chief guest at the event. "It was almost after a month that I got a call from his office saying that SRK would be calling up. And he actually called up at 3 in the morning to confirm his presence," Vishwajeet added.

'I wish OSO was shorter' - Farah Khan

Farah Khan is in a confession mood. Though her second film OM SHANTI OM has broken all box office records and has already accumulated more than 85 crores just from India, she regrets that her film spanned almost 3 hours.

She says in a humorous tone, 'The moment I started recording 'Director's commentary' for the film's DVD, I started wondering if it was a good idea to make a movie as lengthy as this. Imagine, I was lying on my bed in my bedroom while recording for the commentary where I was required to give a frame by frame account of the film.'

'Within a few minutes I was extremely breathless. I was around 7 months pregnant when I had to work on the DVD of OM SHANTI OM. I wanted my audience to know what went into the making of the film and the kind of goofs that happened. I also wanted to use this medium as an opportunity to let the world know about the kind of support I got from not just my crew but even the industry while I was making OM SHANTI OM', she adds.

'It was a nice experience to be recording my commentary but quite a tedious exercise. I was left exhausted after every few minutes and this was the time when I felt if only the film could have been a bit shorter', jokes Farah Khan currently looking after her triplets.

Special editions DVDs of OM SHANTI OM were released to a bumper response last week. If the film had taken a stupendous opening at theaters, the DVD sales are not far behind either as they are said to be recoding great sales all over.

The film comes in a twin DVD pack with the film's duration being 162 minutes. The second DVD has special features lasting another 150 minutes. Apart from Director's Commentary, special features also include:
