WHY AKKI OPTED OUT OF BACHCHAN'S WORLD TOUR

Reportedly Akshay Kumar has opted out of the world's big show world tour that is schedule in 2008. Akshay was part of Bachchan's group called Unforgettable. The reason for his opting out is not just date problems but also that he doesn't get along with Amitabh Bachchan ater the Bhool Bhulaiyaa controversy.

There are two groups in the world tour. While one is called Unforgettable, the other is Temptation. Unforgettable will feature Big B, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh and Bipasha Basu. The Tempataion group will have stars like King Khan Shah Rukh, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukherjee and Priyanka Chopra.
It is believed that both the tours will have separate schedules, and Temptation will set out before Unforgettable. A source informs that Akshay always had date problems as he is one of the busiest actors from the industry. In spite of that he was looking forward to the world tour's grand show. While reports initially stated that Akshay was asking for an exorbitant fee, reports now claim that he has 'date problems'.

But it's more than that we say. It can be recalled that Amitabh was supposed to play the role played by Akshay Kumar in Bhool Bhulaiyaa . This annoyed Amitabh. Akshay and Bachchan were involved in a feud as to who would acquire the rights of the South film that was recently remade into Hindi (Bhool Bhulaiya). Akshay, Bachchan feels unfairly acquired the rights and decided not to work with him henceforth. Bachchan refused many films which starred Akshay in the lead, including Rohan Sippy's Nikhil Advani-directed Made In China . But the war doesn't end here.

Another issue could be 'ego-hassle'. Unforgettable is dominated by the Bachchans and after Ash-Abhishek's marriage this is going to be their first show together, and quite the USP of it all. This may just leave Akshay feeling shortchanged. However, hunk Khiladi is considering having his own show next year, and this one, too, will travel the world!

Sajid Nadiadwala & Sajid Khan riding high on the crest for the super success of HEYY BABYY were the recipients of the Lion clubs gold award 2007.

Sajid Nadiadwala won the award for the best ?Wholesome Entertainer? of the year for his lavish production HEYY BABYY. Whilst Sajid Khan won the award for the best ?Debut Director? of the year for his first super hit directorial venture HEYY BABYY. Both Sajid Khan & Sajid Nadiadwala were quite thrilled at receiving this honour.

On receiving the prestigious award from the Lions Club, says Sajid Nadiadwala, "It is indeed a privilege and honour. I'm extremely grateful to the Lions Gold club for honouring me." Incidentally this is Nadiadwala's fifth Lion's award and Sajid Khan's first. "Many more to come for sure." quips funny man Khan!

WELCOME PREPONED TO 2OTH DECEMBER, 2007


We have heard of movies being postponed but it seems to be one of those rare occasions where a major project has been preponed by a day. Yes, we are talking about Firoz Nadiadwala's much awaited Feroz Khan, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Mallika Sherawat starrer, 'Welcome'. As per the trade buzz, 'Welcome', scheduled to hit the screens on December 21, has been preponed by a day and will now release on the Thursday the 20th of December. The reason is obviously to cash in on the 'Eid-Ul-Azha' festival, which may be celeberated a day earlier at some places.

As may be recalled, 'Welcome' has for company only Aamir Khan's 'Taare Zameen Par' (on 21st), as the third release, Ajay Devgan's Rajkumar Santoshi project, 'Halla Bol' has been postponed to January 2008.

SAIF & AKSHAY BACK IN ACTION

If you went to watch Aaja Nachle and managed to come on time, you must have witnessed the first theatrical promo of Yash Raj's film Tashan. The other promo is of Roadside Romeo (hyperlink http://movies.indiatimes.com/articleshow/2455323.cms ) which was seen along with Laaga Chunari Mein Daag.

Tashan has been in the news mainly because of the alleged affair between Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. But apart from that the promo looks quite slick and completely unlike a Yash Raj film.

We saw it before in Kaante (which was originally inspired from Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs ) and here too the leading star cast comprising of Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor make a walk towards the camera.

The four wear tight fits and going by the looks you immediately come to know that this is an action film. Probably should have expected that judging by the title.

It's great to see Akshay Kumar and Anil Kapoor back into a Yash Raj film as well as seeing Akshay and Saif back together after a very long time. Don't forget, these guys entertained us in quite a few films in the 90s (Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Yeh Dillagi, Tu Chor Main Sipahi, Keemat ) and the first promo of Tashan too promises the same.

Anil Kapoor is sporting a look which is similar to the one which he had in Musafir. He ends off saying "First impression is last impression." Well, the first one is good... let's see what the film has to offer.

AKSHAY & RANI CELEBRATE 50 DAYS!

BHOOL BHULAIYYA and LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG had clashed at the box office exactly seven weeks back. While the fate of the two films is not any mystery, the fact remains that both the films would be celebrating 50 days at the box office tomorrow.

Akshay Kumar gave his fourth straight successful film in the form of BHOOL BHULAIYYA which has done over 53 crores business at the box office and enjoys a super hit status for itself. On the other hand Rani Mukherjee can take solace from the fact that in spite of LCMD being a commercial failure with only 20 crores under its belt and a painfully slow run at minimal screens over the weeks; it got her appreciation from all over.

On the home video front, BHOOL BHULAIYAA has already released on DVDs and VCDs last week whereas going by the tradition, Yash Raj Films has currently only released the VCDs of LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG.

Whats in a name? pondered Shakespeare.

Lots, if you ask Rohan Sippy and Akshay Kumar. The filmmaker and the superstar are apparently at loggerheads on what to name their forthcoming film, the shooting for which will kickstart in January. At the moment, the film thats being directed by Nikhil Advani and is produced by Rohan, Nikhil and Mukesh Talreja to be presented by Warner Brothers has been titled Made In China.

And while Rohans all for the name, Akki feels From Chandni Chowk to China will do the film more justice. An insider reveals, "Yes, both are insisting on names of their own choices, but its not a war. More like how parents would go about naming their baby. You can call it a lovers tiff between a director and his actor! Its not a spat and theres definitely no ego issues here."

Another source insists, "Akki is keen on his name since the movie is sort of autobiographical and the name is more apt because it describes his journey from Chandni Chowk to superstardom." But the duo have worked out a unique way to sort out the issue. "They have decided to follow the SMS system. They have been taking a poll among crew members to ask them what name should be given," the source adds.

Well, Made in China or From Chandni Chowk to China, Akkis fans are sure to watch out for this one!

ENTIRE TEAM OF WELCOME IN PROMOTIONAL VIDEO

Taking a cue from Firoz Nadiadwala's last super hit PHIR HERA PHERI, WELCOME too sees a promotional video featuring the entire starcast of the film on one single frame!

Readers may remember that around a fortnight before the release of Neeraj Vora directed PHIR HERA PHERI, Nadiadwala had come up with a master stroke in the form of promotional video of Himesh Reshammiya's composed and crooned 'Ae Meri Zohrajabeen'. The song had featured everyone from Akshay Kumar, Suneil Shetty, Bipasha Basu and Rimi Sen to Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Suresh Menon and Sharat Saxena amongst others.

The same formula has been reused for promoting Anees Bazmee's WELCOME which arrives on 21st December. The song in picture is Sajid-Wajid composed title song 'Welcome' which all this while was used as a background piece for the first promo of the film.

Featuring the entire cast of the film which includes Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Mallika Sherawat, the song was premiered in the weekend gone by and is expected to bombard the music channels well into the release of the film.

Akshay Kumar may be away in Australia shooting for Vipul Shah's Singh Is Kinng but he's been busy off the sets.

Says a source close to Akshay, "Akki and some of the crew of Singh Is Kinng have been staying in self-contained luxury villas along the Gold Coast. The villas are very expensive but since Akshay and the cast and crew are in Australia for a month and a half it's more comfortable than staying in a hotel."

Khana khazana

Adds the source, "The kitchens are high-tech and are fully equipped. Akshay is very conscious about his diet and every evening, you'll find him cooking salads, soups and sandwiches. The production unit gets the necessary groceries delivered to him."

The source adds, "Parathas are Akki's favourite but now he's stopped eating them. He can cook everything from pasta and fettucini to Thai dishes. Akki has always loved cooking. When Twinkle and Aarav join him, he cooks for them too. Akshay's favourite is sushi, he and Twinkle often indulge themselves at Wasabi."

Akshay laughs when contacted, "Yes. I love cooking. It's a great stress-buster but more than food now people are busy cooking up controversies about me. Earlier, people said that I edited my films. Today, they say I am editing my promos. I am in Australia and the director of Welcome, Anees Bazmee, is shooting with me here. So maybe it's my double who is editing promos back in Mumbai."

Double mazaa

Having gone through a successful year with three comedies, Namastey London, Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Akshay is gearing up for his next release, Welcome.

"Earlier, everyone said I was synonymous with action. Now I've become synonymous with comedy. I'm happy that the three comedies I did this year had the box-office laughing. Welcome is a laugh-riot from the word go and I hope everyone enjoys it."

Is he bidding adieu to comedy? Says Akshay, "No. Comedy comes as naturally to me as action! Next year, I have a variety of films. I am getting back to action with Chandni Chowk To China and Tashan. But for now I want everyone to Welcome the New Year with a bang!" says Akshay.
