A bundle of nerves

Drish, the young boy in the commercial starring Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham, started crying as he couldn't perfrom out of nervousness after seeing SRK

A star's charisma can sometimes be overwhelming. Ask 16-year-old Drish, who is the new face in the Pepsi commercial starring Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham.

Drish might look like a cool dude when he addresses Shah Rukh Khan Khan as uncle in the latest Pepsi commercial, which has just been aired on television. But the reality is that the kid almost broke down in front of Shah Rukh.

Says a source close to the unit," This kid didn't know how to react when he saw Shah Rukh and just started crying and even had trouble performing in front of SRK. He kept wondering how he would enact the scene in which he had to call SRK 'uncle' and ask him to move out of his way so that he could get hold his Pepsi can."

The ad film's director Prasoon Pandey confirms and says," Any newcomer will be overwhelmed to see an icon as big as SRK in front of him. It is quite logical something like that could happen."

Pandey apparently had to do a lot of retakes with Drish, who was finding it difficult to concentrate on the shoot after meeting SRK.

"Retakes are quite a normal thing on every set. So, there is absolutely nothing wrong in retaking the same scene," adds Pandey.

Pandey says," Shah Rukh and John not only acted in the commercial but also gave their creative inputs. They have even written some of the dialogues for the ad film. My agency's creative team and the two actors sat down to chalk the dialogues of the commercial."

It maybe recalled here even Shahid Kapur, who shot his first commercial with Shah Rukh, Rani and Kajol before the release of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, too had got nervous on meeting the superstar. Even Dia Mirza couldn't help being nervous when she had to bite the biscuit off from Shah Rukh's mouth in a recent commercial. Sometimes, she was unable to bite properly, and sometimes her expression went wrong and nervousness clearly showed on her face.

Kick de, SRK

Shah Rukh Khan plays football regularly with Bollywood janta, at Bandra. What's more, he takes his son Aryan along too

Shah Rukh Khan sure loves to kick a mean ball. The actor, who plays a hockey coach in Chak De India, is actually a football lover. Not only does he follow the sport keenly he also goes to the American School of Bombay ground at Bandra-Kurla complex every Sunday to indulge in a good game of football. The line-up includes, apart from SRK, Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Chunky Pandey, Dino Morea and Dino's brother Santino amongst others.

Every Sunday, from 5 pm to 7 pm, SRK and his squad meet up for a testosterone-soaked two hours. After coming back from London, Shah Rukh has not even missed a single session of the game. What's more he takes his son Aryan along as he wants him to toughen up playing the game with big boys. "SRK gets along his son Aryan to play. Apparently, he wants Aryan to play with them. He is also getting him trained in the sport from a professional trainer," reveals our source.

Reportedly, Dino encouraged him to join the gang that anyway used to meet regularly. For those who don't know, Shah Rukh was a University level football player. In Melbourne, while shooting for Chak De India, he used to play

football during breaks with his 16-strong all-girls team as well. When contacted Dino Morea confirmed, "Shah Rukh has been playing football with us at the school grounds regularly of late. He is very passionate about the sport and there isn't a day that he is not willing to be present on the ground for the game."

Ritesh Sidhwani adds, "Farhan and I are also a part of the team. There are a lot of friends from the industry who play with us but I'd rather not disclose any other details."

Chunky Pandey is part of the team too, although he's upset that he couldnt make to yesterday's game, "I have been playing with the team but yesterday I couldn't make it as I had a shoot."

Kya baat hai

We got a late response from SRK with reference to our story ('No Kidding!', August 18) where he'd had a major showdown with director Shirish Kunder and subsequently walked out of his film, Joker.

Said Shah Rukh, "We were discussing the script, and I take a long time to discuss. I haven't heard from Shirish in a while. Maybe he's moved on to something else.

It happens a lot of times with me. There is no disagreement at all. We hadn't reached a stage where there could be a disagreement. Also, he is Farah's husband and the editor for Om Shanti Om, so we cannot really have any issues between us."

We know SRK and Farah Khan are good buddies and that she's directing SRK's home production Om Shanti Om. But it's also true that even a whiff of controversy is bound to affect the film, so we understand SRK's perfectly diplomatic answer. But we also read between the lines only too well!

Top Ten albums of the week

By Joginder Tuteja, August 20, 2007 - 11:01 IST

Now this is what a successful film does to everything around it. Years back something similar was seen in case of 'Gadar-Ek Prem Katha' too where the music caught on within a fortnight of film being released and was declared a blockbuster. Soundtrack by Salim-Sulaiman follows a similar trend as it has sky rocketed to Top-3 within a week of film's release. Title song 'Chak De India' is fast achieving a cult status.

Vidya Malavde- Dance helped me to learn Hockey for Chak De!

August 20, 2007 2:09:39 PM IST
Bollywood Trade News Network

Popular model and actress Vidya Malavde is currently basking high in the success of her blockbuster film, SRK's Chak De India, wherein she essays the role of the team captain. Vidya has never been into any sport her whole life and she says her dancing skills helped her learn the very tricky and strenuous hockey moves! The lady has learnt Kathak as well as other dance forms like Salsa, Fox Trot, Rumba and TAP dancing and is a certified yoga instructor too! Wow looks like Vidya is quite the dance expert!!!

Says Vidya, "I have been practicing dance since last 9 years and the hand eye coordination movements which are so vital in hockey came easily to me thanks to my dance training!. One has to be really careful in hockey, with such heavy uniforms, hard hitting puts and sticks. We had such a rigorous training and it is really a difficult sport to master and play- hats off to the real players who work so hard yet get such little recognition in our country!"

Well, looks like Vidya is 'dancing' her way to success!!

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan.

Director: Shimit Amin.

Plus Points: Top notch performance from Shah Rukh Khan, well-directed and well-paced film.

Minus Points: Hockey may not be such a crowd puller.

Number of weeks: 1.

BO Verdict: Hit.
