Ever since Sidharth Shukla and Rashami Desai's comeback project Dil Se Dil Tak hit the screen, the audience has been going gaga over their chemistry. The teaser that released last year undoutedly made mercury soar with much action shown between the sheets, a first for television. Now, be it Balika Vadhu or his debut Bollywood outing Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Shukla has always played the goodie boy on screen. So seeing him get naughty, too, was a welcome change for fans. How is he taking all the criticism? Was it tough getting intimate with Rashami? The blue-eyed boy of Indian television got candid with T2 Online about all this and more. Excerpts:

You are making a comeback on fiction TV after a long time. What prompted you to take up this show?

When you choose a daily soap, honestly, a lot of factors come into play. I was happy that I was getting to work with one of the popular channels of India. Besides, I was getting a good production house and co-star. I liked the concept of the show, too. A lot of things fell into place, and I came on board.

Was it conscious decision to stay away from daily soaps for the past couple of years?

I was doing many things post Balika Vadhu. I tried anchoring. I did a reality show (Khatron Ke Khiladi), which I won. It was the right time now.

The Colors TV show has already created a buzz for its very sexy promo.

Rashami and I had got loads of compliments for this. I am glad that it was an aesthetically shot teaser, else neither of us would have done it. It was easy to bring out that chemistry on screen because we are comfortable with each other, and that comfort showed on the screen so it came out so well.

No, not at all. What we enacted was very original. The original was also equally beautiful. We had watched the song earlier (years ago when Saathiya released). So, the memories of the song were there.

The promo sees you play naughty, but you are once again playing the good guy on the show, aren't you?

Yes. People relate with me more when I play such roles. And I never feel that I am getting typecast. As long as people love me portraying the positive roles, I will do that. But having said that, I won't shy away from playing a negative character either. If I get a good role, I will surely do it. I won't do a negative role just for the heck of it, to prove a point.

After Karan Johar's Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, everybody expected to see you more on the big screen.

If a good subject comes to me, and if it's something I would love to do, then I will definitely take it up. But so far, nothing good has come.

There were reports that you had signed a three-film deal with Johar's Dharma Productions.

I am very much in touch with Karan, and he hasn't offered me anything yet.

The trailer of the Badrinath Ki Dulhania, touted to be a sequel of the 2014 film is out. Did you watch it?

I loved the trailer. Varun (Dhawan) and Alia (Bhatt) have nailed it again. It will be a huge hit.
