Sure - I plan to read To catch a firefly. It came highly recommended by my FB group. smiley9

I read one book of hers and enjoyed it.

@b: I’m usually more than a little wary of Instagram recs, but honestly, this book is worth it. One of the few that actually made me want to write a review. It doesn’t focus on spice—instead, it’s all about the actual romance, the conversations, the connection between the MMCs. Don’t wanna spoil it for you, sorry! But yeah loved this one ( I’m sure you would guessed by now smiley37)

Lizzie and Alchemy, I've a question related to romantic books. Both of you read a lot and enjoy reading romantic books. So, I thought about asking you this question. I don't feel interested in reading romantic comedies at all. But I want to try a different type of romantic books. Can you suggest some romantic books that have a serious tone, memorable dialogues. relatable characters, unconventional love stories, and definitely a lot of emotional depth. Unconventional love stories are a type of love stories that happen very rarely. For instance, two classmates falling in love with each other is very common, and it's not unconventional. On the other hand, the story of a popular K-drama, Crash Landing on You is unconventional. That's because it's a love story of a South Korean businesswoman and a North Korean soldier, and their romantic relationship defies the social norms. Unconventional love stories can be anything different, but the stories should be interesting. It can be a love story of a person from the 21st century with another person from the futuristic world. Or it can be a love story of two people who meet after 20 years, which stirs their suppressed emotions for each other. Most importantly, the tone of the books needs to be serious. Romcoms are a big no for me.

What exactly do you mean by unconventional romance ?

I'm not a voracious fan of fantasy or time-travel romance. I've read a little here and there, but nothing too seriously. I’m more into rom-coms, though I also enjoy romance books that are centered around a cause or deeper theme.

But if you're into serious, emotionally satisfying romance, maybe you should try Nicholas Sparks or someone like Kate Atkinson. The kind of books you’re looking for are pretty different from what I usually read, so I’m not sure how much of a help I’ll be. Maybe Lizzie might have better suggestions?

One book I can suggest is Attachments by Rainbow Rowell ( give the blurb a read )

Actually, Bee might be your best bet—she likes that genre. ( apologies if I am mistaken )

Bee, aap karoge please ?

I already wrote the meaning of unconventional romance in my previous post. In that post, I said unconventional romance is a type of love story that happens very rarely. It doesn't have to be time travel romance or fantasy romance. The story can be based on reality as well. Unconventional romance means something very different from the love stories we often see or read. Let me simplify it for you. I think you watched SRK's movie Veer Zaara because a lot of Indians did. That's an unconventional love story. We don't often see love stories of an Indian guy and a Pakistani girl. They got seperated and then met again after 22 years in the movie. That makes it even more unconventional. That movie is very emotional. It's not a rom-com.

No, I get what you meant — but I feel like even forbidden romance is often labeled as "unconventional," just not what you’d like.

Would you be interested in suggestions with characters who are on the spectrum (autism) or something along those lines? I recently read Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes — the FMC is a widow, and the MMC is a washed-up baseball player. It’s set in a small town and has almost no explicit content — just a few references to sex, but no actual scenes. I hope I understood the kind of content you’re looking for. Check out the blurb and let me know if that’s the type of book you’re into!

There're different types of forbidden love stories. There're love stories of two people who shouldn't be together because they're meant to be enemies. Then there're also books on incest or taboo relationships. Dhruv Tara's (a romantic time travel Hindi serial) love story is also forbidden. smiley36 That's because both of them belong to different time periods. They shouldn't be together and that's against nature. If someone writes a love story of a vampire guy and a vampire-hunter girl, I'll be interested to read that. smiley36 It falls into the first category of forbidden romance I mentioned. I feel interested in paranormal romance in general. It doesn't have to be a forbidden romance.

I never read any book revolving around an autistic character. But I watched My Name is Khan and the protagonist (SRK's character) was autistic in that movie. I really liked My Name is Khan. So, I think I may like a book with an autistic character too. I read the summary of the book you recommended. The story is good and interesting. I think I may like this book. Thanks for the recommendation! smiley1

I can definitely get the vibe you’re going for, and I’ll get back to you with some books you might like. Even I enjoy Vampire vs Hunter — it’s a really good read, ngl. How much are you into smut /explicit scenes? If you tell me you’re not into that stuff, it’ll help me narrow down the choices.
