Karin Slaughter's The Good Daughter

It is a good thriller book set in the small town of Georgia (Karin likes Georgia a lot I guess smiley36) focusing on the Quinn sisters—Charlie and Sam. Daughters of eccentric geniuses Rusty and Gamma, their lives are irrevocably altered by a traumatic event that continues to haunt them.

Slaughter's portrayal of violence against female characters, particularly the leads, has always been intense yet not gratuitous, though some readers may find certain scenes heavy, so you’re cautioned to read the trigger warnings carefully.

The transitions between past and present is good IMo, though I wished for more of Sam's perspective in the current timeline. smiley44

Charlie is always in focus as she’s the titular good daughter. While I didn't particularly like her, I tried to understand her motivations and why she is, the way she is .smiley36

The main murder suspense is well-crafted, IMO the mystery behind past incident and the new murder situation was balanced effectively.

Has multiple characters and victims, so won’t comment on all smiley36.

Initially, I didn't think I'd like Rusty, but by the end, I found myself lil’ growing fond of him. He was a good father smiley36.

Charlie's relationship with her husband felt lacking in genuine affection, especially given his affair with that young side chick . smiley39

I found the chemistry between Charlie's father and deceased mother more compelling than Charlie and Ben, but I don’t really care about her love life that much so..okay.. whatever smiley36

I personally liked the glimpses into her parents' eccentric ways smiley36 I would have read a book on Rusty and Gamma’s story tbh smiley36

Overall I’ll give it 3.5/5 smiley36

I am reading her other book Pretty Girlssmiley36

Is the book written by Ruskin Bond? He wrote a book named The Girl on the Train.

Edit: Oh sorry, I realised you were talking about a book written by Paula Hawkins.

I’m not liking it either. I’m trudging along though and will finish it. I kept hoping it will get better but nope. And the characters are all so unpleasant idc what happens to any of them smiley24

What’s the Parineeti movie based on? Idk

It's based on the book, The Girl on the Train. The name of the book is also same. It's available on Netflix. But don't think about watching it. The movie is very bad!

I’m definitely not watching the movie seeing as I didn’t even enjoy the book all that much!

Lights Out by Navessa Allen | Goodreads

Just finished reading this today. I would not be calling this dark romance.

I would say it's more comedy romance with some grey shades smiley37

It was a good light read for me and thorougly enjoyed Josh and Ally's banter. They were funny together.

Spice is I would say like 3 chillies, but I did skim through as these scenes are quite repetitive and almost same in all the books. smiley36

Some quotes that I enjoyed:

“I thought we could spend some quality time together as a family. You, me. Our maladjusted son who just scooted his butt across the carpet behind you.”

“I nearly kicked at the floor like a petulant child. But I don't wanna go to bed! I want to stay up late and get railed!”

“Technically, she'd stalked me first. Or she'd tried to…”

“Help me,” I whimpered, Batman-style, and yes, it was just as pathetic as it sounds. “Oh my god,” she said with a shaky laugh. “You’re not blind. Your dumb baklava slid sideways.”
