The Alchemist is an amazing book! I loved it so much - very deep. I would recommend The Little Prince, it's just as deep as The Alchemist. Other than that, I would recommend A Thousand Splendid Suns (one of my favourite books of all time), and the rest of Khaled Hosseini's works. He's just an amazing writer. If you're looking for a series, then Harry Potter all the way - don't let the "fantasy" label scare you away. Although it's about witches and wizards, the depth and reality of the series is remarkable.
