I don't claim my criticism to be 'constructive'. But i don't think they are wrong either.

^^difference of opinion. What you think is "not wrong" could be thought of as wrong by others and vice versa and I guess if that happens one can voice their opinion. Anywho, I didn't come here for an online debate so toodles! :D

Of course, you didn't. 😛 But anyhow, the fact that the twilight books are extremely sexist is a fact not an opinion.

for one thing it doesnt have a proper story and a lot of fillers! for instance who cares abt the wolfs history in eclipse?that was soo boring..!

I also don't particularly like Nicholas Sparks and Paulo Coelho... for some reason. I have read the Alchemist and I still have no idea why i don't like it. Soul searching? Language of the world, universe?

Paulo is very philosophical. He's way too deep for me to like him. All his books are deep. I've only read the alchemist once and I'm not touching it again. It's just a personal preference. I didn't find it very interesting. I know it really did have a life changing impact on certain people but for me, it wasn't very good.

In my opinion, Paulo Coelho and his [preachy] works are not 'deep' at all. They are just very pretentious and ham-fisted. He takes a controversial or sometimes less-thought-out subject matter, and writes about it as if he is the first and only one to do so. I can't stand his 'preachiness' or the sanctimonious houlier-than-thou vibe I get from his works. I can't stand how he feels the need to beat our head with messages constantly and repeatedly, as if it's something of a necessity to embrace his ideas rather than have a more analytical and questioning mind. Usually, I like books which give me the chance to think and question various thought-engaging concepts, but I have no problem with writers who can show one side of the coin very convincingly. Coelho, unfortunately, doesn't belong to either of the two categories. His prose is heavily embedded in cliches, and the characters he sketches aren't very multi-layered either. The Alchemist and By the river Piedra I sat down and wept are the only two decent works of his that I can think of at the moment. The Devil and Miss Prim and The Zahir were what I'd call half-way decent jobs. The rest are not even worth commenting about. Except perhaps Brida - which, in my opinion, is one of the worst and most pointless books I have ever come across. There is nothing really to learn from it except how you must always do a little bit of research before buying books, so that your money or time won't go wasted. Same goes for Valkyries, another book which has a [false] appearance of a thought-engaging work, but in reality is utterly shallow. Again, in my opinion - I can't be speaking for anyone else, right?

Coelho does seem to have the potential to tell a good story - I like his storytelling ability I encountered in a few of his books. And while his prose is sometimes very clichd, it's still somewhat engaging. I hope he does that sometimes in the near future. Though, to be frank, it seems to me that his works are going downhill with each passing day.
