Raj(Shahid Kapoor) is a down and out architect jiski kismat footi hooi hai!! Vishal is his best friend. His kismat changes when he bumps into Priya (Vidya Balan). Crystal Ball reader Haseena Bano Jaan (Juhi) makes him realize that Priya is his lucky charm. Hate at first sight eventuaally blossoms into friendship and love when Raj gets her buttery boyfriend Karan(Vir Bohra) out of the way! Priya unknowingly helps Raj seal a dream deal with Mr. Gill (Om Puri) to build a mall where she runs a community centre. Eventually, Raj has to choose between his love and his career.
There is nothing new about the story but the movie is a delightful watch. There were many scenes in the movie which made the audience roll with laughter. The performances hold the movie together. It is Shahid's film all the way! What Jab We Met was to Kareena, Kismat Konnection will be for Shahid! His million watt smile will melt a million hearts. His comic timing is great and his expression of frustration is real too. With his long locks, he looks delectably delicious! All in all, his performance is endearing and heartwarming. He uses his eyes effectively to express his love for Vidya.
Vidya complements him really well. The short hair do suits her and her portrayal of the naive and optimistic but strong willed Priya is convincing. It is the best she has looked in a long time. And yes, Shahid and Vidya make a good on-screen couple.
The supporting cast has done a fabulouss job too. Juhi Chawla as the sweet, funny and shayari mouthing crystal ball reader is great. Her comic timing is superb. Watch out for her scenes with Shahid. Vishal and Karan Vir Bohra, Om Puri and Himani Shivpuri fit their roles well. Also definitelt watch out for Boman Irani's plesant surprise!
The music is one of the best scores we have heard this year with lively videos. The cinematography captures Toronto beautifully.
Kismat Konnection is a typical Aziz Mirza film. It does get a little predictable but it does not drag too much, thankfully. The storytellling is simple and effective. Everyone has been in the protagonist's shoes at one time or the other so we can relate to it. It is a positive story of being successful and still staying true to yourself. We may not be perfect but we can make the best of our imperfections.
If you love simple stories and you love Shahid and like Vidya, its your best bet this weekend. Truly a feel good and uplifting film which will keep you smiling long after you watch it.
