Slowly but steadily AAMIR has started making an impression at the box office.
The film didn't open to a response which would have made everyone sit up and take notice but that wasn't really expected from AAMIR which had everyone from its director to leading man to cinematographer and other prominent crew members being rank newcomers. Also UTV didn't pump in big money into the film's promotion and instead wanted audience to check it out by themselves.
The experiment has worked as the film showed decent progress as it moved from its first weekend into the week days. Since the weekend itself wasn't superb to begin with, the collections that came from the weekdays only indicated an increase rather than a traditional fall as days passed by. Meanwhile real jump was seen in the second weekend gone by as the film showed very good collections on the limited prints that it is currently on.
All of this courtesy very good word of mouth that has spread on quite strongly, hence resulting in urban centers (which is basically the target audience of the film) waking up to the film's credentials.
In fact good spread of good words for this Raj Kumar Gupta directed film is not just from those people who have watched the film but even those who haven't (a rarity)! How is that possible? Well, it is the 'There is this movie called AAMIR and it is getting a good response. Have you heard about it?' factor! The film has been appreciated on all counts and it would be criminal if exhibitors choose to ignore it in weeks to come.
Rajeev Khandelwal has come up with a flawless act in the title role of AAMIR and the film deserves to be sustained at theaters on a continued note to see collections stabilizing over a period of time. As of now, first week of the film (which is showing on limited prints) has resulted in a little over 1 crore coming in which is definitely not bad for a small budgeted AAMIR. A few weeks more and this may well turn out to be the BHEJA FRY of 2008. Well, box office wise of course!
