The best part of the film is its realistic effort and the shock it gives to the viewers. Shot at actual locations like the by lanes of Mumbai or shoddy houses, it gives totally different effect. It is not like a regular Bollywood movie which has entertainment or heroines dancing or iten numbers or as matter of fact the hero always taking the upper hand. Its too realistic and the climax leaves you with a feeling of disappointment and unfulfilled feeling, something exactly what the film want to convey.
The film shows how an innocent man can easily get embroiled in the trap of terrorism or other dark acts in our society. Here's a doctor coming back home from London but instead finds himself in the trap of terrorists who uses him in the name of religion to create terror. Film maintains this thriller feeling almost throughout. Yes at places the scenes got bit dragging. But being a debut team they did a marvelous job. Too many films have been made on this issue but the difference of them to Aamir is that this does not show anything unreal while trying to preach you something. There's no moral story being given to the viewers as is done in usual case for such subjects.
The background score done by Amit Trivedi is fabulous. Its bit erratic and somehow while watching the film this very erratic score is what works on your subconcious mind and give that suspense thriller feeling. Camera man is also on his debut I think and he did a wonderful job too. With the erratic music this erratic camera movement is what gives you the creepy feeling and makes up sit upright throughout the film. Gajraj Rao the villain is just fantastic. Too competent acting!!!
Now to come to Rajeev Khandelwal. Here's an actor who made it big on TV and now making a debut in bollywood. But his acting is way matured. Yes there are points where he need to work upon to make it really big. As far as his expressions went he was too real. But his dialogue delivery were not matching with the expressions at times. Rajeev seriously need to work bit more on his dialogue part. That will make him a real force in Bollywood to reckon with. Big Kudo's to him for taking up such a film. The camera was on him almost all the time in the film and it was a big responsibility on his shoulder as he alone had to carry off the film. A role that he did too well.👏👏
Well as the box office is to be taken the film is a hit. Never did the team claimed for a big blockbuster hit as this was an offbeat film. Hit or no hit the film has made its mark and so has all the team members. If today the film is running in the halls and people are going there to watch it then its totally on it's merits and not on any other factor. Rajeev made the right decision to take this film to start his journey into Bollywood. He made his mark as an actor!!! And that is what matters most. So many TV stars tried their luck in Bollywood (Baring SRK) but how many could make such a mark in their very first film.
Yes Aamir is a film worth watching. Not because it is of Rajeev. But because its a well made film. Its worth watching because of its merits. A team work that too of debutants has made a really good film. I won't be too surprised if the film gets nominated for many of the awards for the year 2008. How many it wins is something else as still half the year is left and more films may come which could be better than Aamir. But definitely this film and its team will get nominated.
Its a request to the members that PLEASE don't put out the climax or any such part of the film in the topic. This is a general review and so please don't turn it into a spoiler for others who are yet to watch the film.
