QT with Harman Baweja

Filmmaker Harry Baweja's leaving no stone unturned to make sure that LoveStory 2050 — the film his son Harman's setting foot onto Bollywood soil with — hits bullseye at the box-office.

However, it's not only Harman who'll be seen making his debut in this futuristic love story that also stars Priyanka Chopra. The film also marks the debut of another beauty. But Priyanka need not worry about competition here, since this beauty is actually a robot named 'Quintessential Terrestrial' (QT). It is also the first time that a robot will be seen sharing screen space with actors in Indian cinema.

So, while Priyanka has a cuddly teddy bear Boo keeping her company, Harman is accompanied by QT, who starts off as being a robot at his service, but later becomes a good friend and ally. In fact, she even has a song sequence with the actor.

Designed specially for the film by Hollywood's Oscar-winner special effects creator John Cox — the man behind films like Babe, Scooby-Doo, Peter Pan and many more — QT is not just another interactive robot, reveals Harry. "What we wanted was a robot designed to look like an Indian woman, hence the kohl-lined eyes and eyebrows," he says of the brief given to Cox. From conceptualising QT to the actual working, it took the team more than six months, but those who've seen the robot agree that it'll take Bollywood onto a different level altogether.

"Even though the face is quite static, she can actually emote by twitching her nose, blinking and even raising eyebrows. She's quite feminine and even introduces herself as QT with a reference to 'cutie'," he adds. "She has a full-fledged character and a role to play." So, is there a possibility of a romantic angle to this love story? "No, nothing of that sort," he laughs. "It's Harman and Priyanka's love story all the way. However, QT does have an admirer."
