Nice topic!!!
But...um I think we shouldn't judg actresses before they come up with their item numbers...! Maybe people must have thought that Aishwarya was a bad item girl before she came out with her item songs.. Ishq kameena and Kajra re and now Crazy kiya re...so its best we judge thm after thesongs come out!

that's what im wondering... it seems to be in between cuz the role did require her to do that cuz well she was a bar dancer lol... but am not totally sure

Well, it depends how it is done. The actresses mentioned do have a certain way they have presented themselves on screen so as long as it does not look crude, it should be fine. But I definitely do not think Vidya should do one at least right now. I think Tabu could do one as long as it was not silly. Interestingly enough Nandita Das was trained as a Odissi dancer and said she would not mind dancing in a song as long as it suited the film. So I don't think we can completely rule anything out.

preity did a item song in chori chori chupke chupke song name deewani deewani. she looked ok then not sure about right now if she did it now cuz her image in bollywood is diff now.

Ermm i m a lil confused ... what is the definition of a "item girl".. coz the thing is...

Rani is a trained and a fabulous dancer... but wen u guys say tht she shouldn't do an item number, do you mean, she can't dance or do you mean she won't look good doing a item dance? There is a difference !
In my opinion, i think she can pull off a item dance... but in her own way ..

Only one actress in this industry, till date, has done the maximum hit item songs and has been given the status of a legend and a brilliant actress at the same time... and that's Madhuri Dixit ! She has been able to manage both very well .. and the best part, she never made item songs look sleazy.

And abt actresses who shouldn't attempt item songs, the first one who comes into my mind is Vidya Balan.

Im not saying the actresses will look terrible if they go for an itm number, all i meant is they are better off with the girl next door looks. For instance if we think about Sonam then we get an image of a sweet/simple girl from a conservative family so on the basis of that imagination I will say she shouldnt go for an item rather but not like she will do terrible if she chose it.
