The use of English in Hindi songs

What are your opinions on the use of the English language as well as rap/hip-hop music in Hindi songs?

When it was first introduced it did sound quite fresh and a rather interesting combination. However, now-a-days it seems as if, every other Bollywood soundtrack has at least 1 or 2 songs of this sort.

Do you think its been overdone? Is it time for something else?

Is Hindi music becoming too western and forgetting its roots?

Not funny at all. Listen to the tracks, most English lines are meaningless and totally ruins the song. And what's with hip hop? The clothes, hair on actors look hilarious. Stick with ur own culture. Like Madonna won't look nice dancing Mahi Ve, you don't fit 🤢

I just want the good old hindi songs back! 😆 😆 Call me old fashion or whatever, i liked the soulful/meaningful songs of the past. Music now is good too, but yea too many of good things may have spoilt it a bit!!

But then again I guess, music has changed or rather 'evolved' to meet the needs of TODAYS population. I mean we keep yelling for a change for a diff kind of cinema. So i guess the music has to changed to fit role accrodingly, you cant have soapy/lullaby music against some action flick now can you! 😛

Great topic! Definitely overdone these days, but occassionally it sounds okay. I'm really annoyed with Gulzar lately because he puts in English words in random places of perfectly good songs, and ruins them. For example, why did he have to have "personal se savaal karti hain" in Kajra Re? I think the song would have been better if he stuck to hindi.

They ruin a very good song!! Like the songs in Welcome. All were terrific till you hear the "shit" part. Makes me mad. What's wrong with hindi that you have to bring in another language.. don't get me wrong, I love English songs, but there is a difference!

Sorry to say but most of the lyric writers in bollywood aren't capable of fitting in english terms in a song.

Majority of them sound like illitrates who were forced to pen down english lyrics.LOL.Example being:Let's rock now soniye.🤣

OMG.The first day this song came out on the promos,I thought it was some kind of joke.🤣Hats off to Sameer for penning down such meaningful and soulful lyrics.What a beautiful term...."Let's rock now soniye."Just brilliant.👏Only a mastermind could've created such a masterpiece.👏

ahah..i was thinking the same for some songs. they dont make sense at all ..and i really hate the title song from good boy bad boy!! it so irritating. "you're a gooood boy...you're a badd boy!!"🤣
