Winner takes it all. That is the rule of the game. There are many many extremely talented people who are overlooked every year!

There must be a lot of heartburn especially among younger actresses who have been working hard for the last few years without breaking into the big league..

This girl comes along..and she bags every endorsement,is on every calendar released along with the the top stars,is in the run for every major role..commands a price of more than a crore.the media writes about her-she is already one of priyanka,katrina,bipasha...

It is an intagingible star quality, some have it some dont.Shahrukh and Farah immediately recognised it and so they gave her the kind of star treatment no newcomer has ever ever got.Farah even said that only Aishwarya could have played the role of shanti! They practically put her on a pedestal before the release and she didnt disappoint! The length of her role doesn't matter much-it is the perception...Shanti and her 2 oms!

True, but I don't think it's enough to say thats he/she is a natural, and I think there are more actresses that do just a tiny part in a film, and they act just great. But that won't make them a natural..? No one is holding anything to my head 😆and I think she was natural in her first film. She did what she was required to do. She did do what she was required to do so, but many actresses do that.

I think she is plain lucky. I don't think there was any criteria to this nomination. Otherwise my choice was Tabu in Cheeni Kam or Vidya in Bhool Bhulaiyya.

Sorry if you didn't like me quoting you 😳

Sabrina, Of course you can quote me😊.

Isn't it all depends upon perception? Otherwise all of us would have same choices always. I thought she was natural in her debut film. You think she wasn't. Fair enough. I don't agree with anyone who says Deepika was hardly there. For me the whole film revolved around Deepika. She was the core of the film and performed brilliantly the role which she was asked to do so. My opinion is the same about another newcomer Sonam who didn't have a bigger role in Saawariya and I consider her much better than Ranbir in her first film even though he walked away with all the laurels.

And about many other actors doing their role well. Yes, there are many better actors but how many get recognized? Did a Vinay Pathak get appreciated in a film like Bheja Fry? Was Sarika considered for best actor-female in Parzania in any of the popular awards? Did anyone even talk about the kid in 'Apna Aasman' who gave at par performance with Darsheel Safary (TZP) but went unnoticed? Apna Aasman released just few months before TZP but didn't have famous names associated with it. It dealt with an autistic child.

So what fairness are we talking about?

As Ankita31 mentioned it is about star value which everyone doesn't get. SRK who came from nowhere got debut award for his first film is charisma. There is some charisma in this girl too. You accept it or not is entirely your choice. 😊

veryuniquestyle, Everyone is entitled to their opinion. As long as the discussion is sensible and has constructive criticism, I don't think there is any problem discussing any actor here. After all it is Bollywood forum.

Yea, it does depend upon perception. Even though I also think Deepika was the core of the movie, she doesn't deserve 'Best Actress'in my opinion. 😊 As for Sonam, she did a brilliant job as well, as you mentioned, and I think she should've been considered as 'Best Newcommer' as well as Deepika. 😊
