Raj (Ranbir) is the main narrator is this story. The story starts with Raj telling the story of his lonliness in the city. He has only one friend Gulab (Rani) who is a prostitute. He states that only time he feels comfortable is during the nights since the daylight reminds him more and more of his lonliness. The main story is divided into 4 night into Raj's life. First night: While meandering in the city as usual in the night, Raj comes accross a beautiful girl standing on the railing. Raj could not resist the beauty and tries to talk to Sakina (Sonam). She avoids talking to a stranger with appreance as of Raj. But on the road ahead when a person eve-teases Sakina, Raj teaches him a lesson and walks Sakina till her home. Impressed by Raj, Sakina does talk to him and this is when Raj realizes that she is as shy and lonely as he is. She promises to meet him the next day and continue with their friendship without any romantic adcances. Second night: Their friendship develops more. They roam around in the city and Sakina reliazes that Raj is the friend she was looking for who understands her and would bring smile to her face. On the other hand, for Raj, his heart skips a beat or two when he is with Sakina and he is more romantically inclined towards her. Unknown with each other's past they adore each other, for Sakina its a friend and for Raj its a love. Third night: This is the night that brings some facts about Sakina's past into light. Sakina used to stay with her disciplanrian grand-mother (Zohra Sehgal) in their house before 1 year. Since they could not afford to maintain theri life-style without anyone earning, they rented out one room in their house to a young-man close to Sakina's age. It's none other than Salman Khan. Sakina gets attracted to him and they fall in love with each other. Sakina proposes him to get married but since he is not well settled in the life he asks her for 1 year time to stabilize in the life and get back to her for marraige. Its past one year, with no letter or any contact from him. Sakina longs for him and asks Raj if he can help her find her lost love. As much as Raj has fallen in love with her and does not want her to find Salman, he does help her find him out. In all this, Raj feels alienated from Sakina as well, since he feels to have lost not only his love but a friend as well. Fourth night: Raj takes a chance and does tell Sakina that he loves her. Sakina is shocked and does not want to stay or talk with Raj. But Raj still proposes to walk her till home and as luck would have it, a young man passing them by, turns and stops to say hi. Its none other than Salman. Sakina turns around runs and hugs him. Raj has all that it takes for getting married and he is ready. Sakina accepst his proposal and before leaving turns around and kisses Raj. Last morning: Raj gets a marraige invitation letter from Sakina. Sakina and Salman are getting married next week. Raj takes his friend Gulab to the marraige with him. Everything else... you will know when you see the movie. Who will Sakina end up with? |
