Amrita can be hot too!
Amrita Rao's back with a hot new look for her upcoming movie.
Is the pretty actress hoping to break free from her girl-next-door image? BT finds out...
So you've got yourself a whole new sexy look for My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves?
It's a new look for me. I was just sporting the attitude of the song. It's one of the best romantic songs I've had in my movies. I just had a blast grooving to Bosco-Caesar's choreography.
Are you looking to break free from your goodie-goodie girl image?
I wouldn't want to break from anything that I have done in the past because I am very proud of it. But as an actress one cannot restrict oneself to a particular image. An actress needs to keep experimenting with different kinds of looks, costumes, makeup, characters for her audiences each time.
What do you have to say about the sweet girl-next-door image that you have?
Actually, I love being called the girl-next-door. But it comes with certain preconceptions and so I want to change the definition of the term girl-next-door. Your girl-next-door can have a great sense of humour, she can be the life of a party and can be very hot and attractive.
Considering you are M F Husain's latest muse, how has he reacted to your new look in My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves?
Husainsahab will always see me as his Poonam. But he understands that I cannot be the same person in each film. I am waiting to hear his comment though.
What about the recent buzz that you refused a Yash Chopra film because of a kissing scene with Ranbir Kapoor?
That's not entirely true. I would certainly love to work with Ranbir. I saw his work in Saawariya and he was extremely impressive and I'm looking forward to working with him.
But you did turn down a Yash Chopra movie?
I felt I could not do justice to the role I was being offered, so I chose not to commit myself to it.
What about rumours linking you to Shahid Kapur especially during the time he and Kareena Kapoor split?
I choose not to react to baseless rumours and speculations. In fact, I was in Hyderabad shooting for a month when their split came as news to me,.
Was it awkward for the two of you after reports of a link-up?
Not at all. Shahid was nice enough to call me and personally invite me for the trial of Jab We Met. We met recently during interviews for our movie Vivaah which was to be telecast on TV.
Vivaah did well, but you've not had a release after that. In fact, you've been busy down South...
I've always had a lot of offers from South. But this Telugu film Athidhi opposite Mahesh Babu was a big opportunity. It felt great to experience a whole new process of acting. I learnt Telugu. Surprisingly, though it's a difficult language, I picked it up quite fast. Now whenever I bump into an Andhrite, I make sure that I talk to them in Telugu only. Among my Hindi films, there's Anil Kapoor's Shortcut, Shyam Benegal's Mahadev and Ajit Pal's Victory. And, of course, My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves, which will be my first release after Vivaah and I can't wait for it.
Are you excited about singing with Bret Lee for your forthcoming film?
I'm not at the liberty of commenting anything right now. But I'm excited about Victory
