Anti-Modi remarks haunts Aamir Khan before release of 'Taare Zameen Par' in Gujarat

Vadodara, Dec 19 (ANI): Several political activists in Gujarat today protested against the screening of Bollywood star Aamir Khan's upcoming film 'Taare Zameen Par', and demanded an apology from him for his anti-Narmada dam remarks and criticism of the Narendra Modi Government.

'Taare Zameen Par', which marks Khan's debut as director, is all set to hit cinema halls this Friday.

Aamir's remarks against Chief Minister Narendra Modi as well as his opposition to the Narmada dam had evoked violent protests across the state last year.

The activists of the Sardar Patel group protested outside PVR and INOX theatres in Vadodara and tore up posters of the movie.

"We won't allow the movie to be screened unless the actor apologises to the people of Gujarat for his remarks," said Manish Sangani, head of the Sardar Patel Group.

Two other Aamir Khan starrer 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Fanaa' also faced similar protests.

In 2006, when Aamir Khan starrer 'Fanaa' was released, the Supreme Court passed an order stating that film exhibitors in the state were free to seek security if they wanted to screen the movie 'Fanaa'.

Pushpendra Singh, manager operation INOX theatres has decided to boycott the screening of the movie.

"We don't want to screen the film because we are with the people of Gujarat and don't want to hurt them," said Pushpendra Singh, manager operation INOX theatres. (ANI)

Geez he just expressed his opinion. No need to boycott a film! I must say this seems like very immature behaviour! 🤢

although, i supported aamir during fanna release but since i started reading and watching the news on him. he used the NBA just for publicity. check the article posted by Maya which is interview by anuradhasen Gupta. She even asked him if he kept up on the issue of NBA. He says's he an actor not a social activist. this guy is total has total dumbness in his head. does he not remember he said he's a indian and has every right to voice his opinion on it. he supported the NBA farmers for a freaking film! I guess i should just consider him a actor not a NORMAL indian 😛

Exacctly. That's why his answers didnt seem too convincing to me on that interview. Several of them ended up contradicting either his past statements or actions.

He is a really good actor, one of the best India has got. Ill give him credit for that. But there are issues on the personal front.

Yes but its also important to pick your battles wisely! 😛 I feel boycotting a film is completely unneeded and a waste of time!
