Akshay-Katrina starrer Welcome is a copy of Hugh Grant flick

There seems to be no end to Bollywood filmmakers adapting, copying or claiming to get inspired from their counterparts in Hollywood. The latest to join the league is Anees Bazmee who's directing Firoz Nadiadwala's Welcome.

Copycat Bazmee

The film starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor is said to be a copy of the romcom, Mickey Blue Eyes. A source reveals, "Firoz Nadiadwala watched Mickey Blue Eyes a long time back and liked the concept. He was playing around with the idea of doing a remake."
After watching the early promos of Welcome it becomes clear that the film is indeed based on Mickey Blue Eyes. While Akshay steps into Hugh Grant's shoes, Katrina plays the role of Jeanne Tripplehorn.
When contacted, director Anees Bazmee doesn't deny similarities between the two. "There will be comparisons drawn between the two. Its understandable, but I won't say that Welcome is an outright copy of Mickey Blue Eyes. There could be situations and events which may seem similar, but the settings are totally different."
Shooting for Vipul Shah's Singh is Kinng in Australia, Bazmee adds that he isn't deterred by any comparisons with the Hollywood film. "I think the audience is going to love Welcome. We have Feroz Khan on the big screen after a long time. Every actor has given their best, so I don't need to worry at all."

What's Mickey Blue Eyes about?

When Michael proposes marriage to his girlfriend Gina Vitale, he is shocked to be turned down. Gina later tearfully explains that her father and most of her cousins and uncles are gangsters deeply involved in a mafia crime family, and she's worried that Michael may be sucked into their world. Michael retorts that he won't let this happen, but barely is the engagement party over before he is unwittingly involved in a money laundering scam, and soon the FBI is sniffing at his heels.
