Rajkumar Santoshi has decided to drop Shahid Kapoor from his upcoming next and has signed Ranbir Kapoor instead. Sources reveal this happened on Salman Khan's insistence, who didn't want girlfriend Katrina to star with Shahid.
"The Halla Bol maker was keen to start the Shahid – Katrina film, a romantic comedy quickly. The script was ready for a long time and he was working out the dates for the film. When the news broke out about this film, Salman was in for a shock as he was not consulted by Katrina over giving her nod for this film with Shahid with whom he doesn't share a good equation post the Rockstars Tour in 2006," sources say.
"There was a bit of an argument between the off screen couple over this before Katrina left for her shoot of Singh Is Kingg in Australia, another film which she didn't discuss with him before signing, knowing well it had Akshay Kumar who, again like Shahid, is in the bad books of the controversial Khan," sources add.
"Salman it seems had warned her to leave the project and at the same time also requested Santoshi to look out for a different hero if he wanted Katrina in the film. The acclaimed maker it seems then decided better not to take a panga with Sallu and take on Salman's current favourite Ranbir Kapoor as the hero," concludes the source.
In a fix, Santoshi is dishing out excuses that his Shahid – Katrina starrer had a story resembling that of Shahid's Jab We Met which recently released and became a hit. Industrywalas feel, if he wanted to make changes he would have reworked the script but why change the hero?
Salman v/s Shahid
During a rehearsal in US at the Rockstars world tour in 2006, Shahid went ahead and tried to give Salman dancing tips when he was repeatedly getting steps wrong. This irked Salman big time who was already having a cold war then with John Abraham who was also along with them on the tour. He ignored Shahid for the rest of the tour and has even kept their only film together Milenge Milenge, in which he has a special appearance, hanging for over a year and a half now.
