Deepika Padukone will be paired opposite Salman Khan in Sohail Khan Productions' Mr & Mrs Khanna. Deepika's entry into the project signals an exit for Lara Dutta. Our source says, "Initially, Preity Zinta was approached for the film. But after the success of Partner, the Khans decided to cast Lara for the role." Our source also revealed that the decision to take Lara was fuelled by her and Salman's new-found friendship. He adds, "Salman and Lara bonded big-time during the making of Partner. But things do not seem to be the same between them anymore now, with the Khans approaching Deepika."
He also says, "The Khans had some informal discussions with Deepika about casting her in Mr & Mrs Khanna. They are very keen to have her in the film."
When contacted, Sohail Khan was reluctant to talk about this latest development. "I don't want to comment on this," he said. When asked if Deepika had been signed for his pet project, Sohail replied, "Things have not been confirmed yet."
However, he was extremely evasive about Lara. When asked what made them choose Deepika over Lara, Sohail replies, "I am still writing the script. It is too early to say anything."
Lara Dutta was unavailable for comment.
