The fourth generation hero Ranbir Kapoor of Indian cinema's first family is all set to make his debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'SAAWARIYA'. Grandson of the original showman Raj Kapoor and son of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, 6 foot tall Ranbir is all set to invade the path of stardom with his looks, voice, dancing abilities and excellent command over pure Hindi. He has already become the craze among girls and the top banners of the industry are planning a film with him. Bollyvista talks to the newest Kapoor who has already become a star before his first release…

You have already become a craze amongst youth.
That's the result of a hype which has been created around 'Saawariya'. I was aware that expectations would be very high and I would have to deliver.

How did you get to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali?
I was in USA when Devdas was released. Even at that time I was receiving several offers to work in films. However it was my goal to make my debut with Sanjay Bhansali. So, my step towards that mission was to seek him out and impress him so that he noticed me. Finally, I decided to go up to him and ask for a job as an assistant director. To my good fortune, he asked me why I wanted to be an assistant director, when I was good enough to be a hero. My job was done. He promised me that in his next film I would be the hero. Then, I joined him as an assistant in 'Black'.

But wasn't R. K. Films was also supposed to launch you?
Yes. We were working on the script but Sanjay's offer came first, and we knew that I couldn't get a better opportunity than that.

You must have learnt a lot from Sanjay Bhansali.
Yeah, a lot ... not only as an actor but also as a human being. He takes a lot of pain to get better results on the screen. I was a little nervous while picturising the "Pari" song. To make me comfortable and get the real feel of the situation, he took me to the red-light area. It was quite an experience for me. Whatever I have today as an actor is because of Sanjay Bhansali. He is an institution by himself.

Your father was the ultimate lover boy on screen. Comparisons are inevitable.
The good thing with my father was that he never copied anyone. He had his unique style. I too will try to evolve my own style.

Did he ever give you tips on acting?
Not really! But before the song picturisation of "Masha Alla", I was a little worried. I asked father how should I do it. He said, "Kapoor ho, passionately perform karo. Everything will fall in place."

The most difficult scene in 'Saawariya'
The most difficult scene to perform in 'Saawariya' was the climax scene.

How was it working with Salman Khan?
Although we are both in the film, we didn't shoot together even for a day. Even in the film we don't come face to face with each other.

And Sonam?
We are childhood friends, so that bond is always there. Besides, she is a very dedicated actor like her father. I feel proud that she is my co-star in 'Saawariya'

Ranbir Kapoor
What have you learnt from your parents?
Professionalism and passion for work from my father and good values from my mother.

Is it true that you have been signed by Yash Raj Films and Karan Johar?
Nothing has been finalized yet.

And R. K. Banner is also planning to start a film with you?
Very true! We are working on that.

Which actors you admire the most?
My father, Akshaye Khanna and Kajol. Akshaye is a fantastic actor. I am also fond of Hrithik Roshan, so I don't miss any of his films.

Ranbir Kapoor on a scale of 1 to 10
9 out of 10 for myself

'SAAWARIYA' or 'OM SHANTI OM'
In the first place, the clash should have been avoided. Since it's happening, I wish all the best to both films
