I agree with this. It is so easy to hate beautiful people, and people do it with passion. And a majority of women dislike beautiful women because they are not like them. Rani is so likeable because she has very very average looks... Ash is hated upon for every single thing that she ever does, and jealousy plays a major role here.

Rutu, According to me, with or without disclaimer, what you wrote is the truth. It is easier to connect to average looking actors. I remember once I met a Tamiliam guy who thought Arvind Sami is horrible whereas Rajnikant is handsome. He was wondering why women drool over the likes of Arvind Sami and Ajit. I didn't bother to argue because I understood his insecurities.
