Hollywood meets Bollywood
Ali Larter plays the role of Marigold Lexton, a B grade Hollywood star who has so far worked only in sequels of skin flicks, such as Fatal Attraction 3 etc. She comes to India to star in another numbered flick, Kamasutra 3 but gets stranded in the Bollywood town, Mumbai when her sleazy producers are arrested. She finally manages to get a role in a Bollywood film where she meets Prem (as the name suggests-the very obvious Salman Khan) who is the choreographer of the film she is working in.
After meeting Prem, the bitchy, foul mouthed Marigold undergoes a drastic transformation. He also helps her in discovering her inherent natural dancing ability. As a result, she ends up falling in love with Prem without realising he is already engaged to Janvi (Nandana Sen). To
complicate matters further her on/off boyfriend Barry (Ian Fraser) lands up in India. What happens next is what you have to wait and watch.
Interesting facts
- William Caroll, Marigold's director has directed the Sean Connery-Angelina Jolie starrer Playing By Heart (1998). He fell in love with Bollywood films after watching Salman-Preity–Rani starrer, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. He then watched about 150 Hindi flicks on DVD.
- Preity Zinta was first offered the role of Salman's girlfriend in the film but she declined. Nandana Sen was later signed to play this part.
This is music director trio Shankar - Ehsaan and Loy's first Hollywood project.
The opening sequence of the film is a dance performance by Salman Khan and his troupe in front of the Taj Mahal.
Ali Larter's character of a blonde is not just the stereotypical 'white' girl in distress in a Bollywood movie but is that of a three-dimensional total catty girl who often indulges in profane and abusive cell-phone conversations with her boyfriend and agent in the US.
When the controversial Khan saw the film for the first time, he liked character actor, Rakesh Bedi's (portly star of Chashme Buddoor) work so much that he sent him a bouquet and a note of appreciation. Bedi plays the role of Ali's Bollywood film's producer.
