Bollywood's biggest dream factory has triggered off a panic situation in the film industry in 2007. Starting with Siddharth Anand's Tara Ra Rum Pum in April, Yashraj Films has lined up a film for almost every alternate month in 2007, engendering a kind of no-win crisis for other productions, big or small.
"Don't quote me on this," says a 50-year old avant-garde filmmaker who went into production recently with a host of smallish films being readied for release. "But Yashraj is gradually inching towards a monopolistic approach to filmmaking. They're buying out all the stars and also all the theatres. As it is, no producer wants to release any film two weeks before or after a Yashraj release. Now with their films lined up for the rest of the year, where do we go with our modest films? All the main outlets and theatres will be blocked from now till the year-end."
Vipul Shah just out with his biggie Namastey London agrees. He says, "It's true that a Yashraj film is a scary thought. I could've waited till the end of the World Cup to release my film. But right after there's Yashraj's Tara Rum Pum Pum followed by Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom and Chak De. I'd rather take on cricket than a Yashraj film."
The Yashraj factor even colours the attitude of the star system. Every actor, big or small, is willing to slash his or her price for the banner.
Though of late, Yashraj has been paying without demanding discounts. Says a top leading man who has done a number of films with the banner, "Initially I accepted whatever they gave me — every actor does that. But for my new film with them I've been given what I wanted. So yeah, they're not at all tight-fisted any more."
With stars getting their market price from Yashraj, and with as many as five films coming up this year the banner is poised to capture the market like never before.

Personally I have no interest in watching any Yash Raj films in the theatre this year....TRRP lookz cool with its race car sequences but will end up being one of those rhona-dhona movies...Chak de looks like a copy of Bend it like Beckam...but the sport is different...and JBJ lookz interesting from its first look but cant decided whether i'll see that in theatre or on DVD until i read itz preview...but for other Yash Raj films i'll just wait for the DVD
