The actor is helping brother Faisal get back on his feet by investing in and buying land for goat farming

Goats Get Aamir's Vote: Aamir Khan
Goat farming is certainly not the first thing that comes to mind when a film star says he's broadening his horizons. But hey, for the Khan brothers Aamir and Faisal, it's a profitable and enjoyable experience!

Apparently, Aamir has invested a huge amount of money (rumoured to be in crores) in the goat farming business, and Faisal will be looking after the venture.

A source close to the Khans reveals, "Aamir has been taking an active interest in this business for the past seven months. In a way, Aamir is also helping Faisal, who has not been keeping well and is barely doing work in Bollywood."

Capital gains

The source says details of how the brothers will share the profits is sketchy, but adds, "Buying the goats and the farm land is not a joke. This venture requires a good amount of investment. Aamir has put in all the capital."

Presently, Faisal is looking for land across Maharashtra and Gujarat. "Land selection has to be done very carefully. The farms are used to breed goats and hence have to be conducive to their health. Goat farming promises good returns in terms of being milked or sold as meat," the source adds.

As for Faisal's ill-health, the source says, "He's not really in the best of shape, but is relatively better now. He has been travelling by train looking for farm land, but has to be invariably accompanied by a helper or a guard."

Aamir and Faisal were unavailable for comment, but a family member confirmed that they were getting into the goat farming business shortly.

Aamir's father Tahir Hussain (producer of films like Caravan, Anamika, Zakhmee and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke) has one more son with Bollywood ambitions — Hyder — through his second wife Shehnaz.

Faisal's faux pas

Faisal made his acting debut in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), in a cameo role. He played another cameo role in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), before finally landing the lead in the 1994 film Madhosh.

Unfortunately, the film flopped badly and the actor went on a hiatus.

He decided to give his career another go when he acted opposite Aamir in Mela (2000), but that film too failed at the box office.

Later, Faisal did some forgettable films like Basti, Chand Bujh Gaya and Border Hindustan Ka, before quitting films to move to television in Chausat Panne.

He was married to Samia Kamruddin, an accessory designer from London. The marriage lasted only a few months. In 2004, he was persuaded by the Mumbai Police to get admitted to a hospital for psychiatric treatment.

This was after Aamir filed a petition with the police claiming his brother was sending threatening letters to him and other members of his family.

About goat farming

The goats provide two important sources of income in this business — milk and meat. On most goat farms, goats are treated similar to dairy cows and are milked twice a day.

The breeding season is between August and March. Goats are generally bred once a year, so their kids are born between January and August. If the farmer is interested in meat production, then the kids are nursed from eight to ten weeks.

After that, they are fed hay, grain and pasture until they gain enough weight to be sold as meat.
