Coolie is nothing more than an average entertainer even for Rajani Fans. Lokesh Kanagaraj falters miserably with the storyline and screenplay. The script fails to match the stature of stars like Rajni, Nagarjun, Upendra and Aamir.

The story keeps on going back and forth missing strong connection with audience. Even the intro scenes of Nagarjun or Upendra was weak. Aamir is wasted in short cameo that too in shorts. It was embarrassing to see such a star from Bollywoood ridiculed to such role.

Only star which shines apart from Rajni in the movie is Soubin Shahir. His performance lifts the movie.

The movie not just falters in storyline but its editing was too choppy. Performance wise Rajni has grown old and its clearly visible in action and dance sequences. His rigid body without much of flexibility disappoints his fans.

Anirudh's music has always been high for any Tamil movie, but this time its hits and miss. The English song BGM in action scene of Nagarjun was good but he fails do same with Rajani's action scenes or the introduction scenes of Sathyaraj, Nagarjun or Upendra. Despite having pivotal character in the story, Shruti almost sleep walks in the movie. Surprisingly, another girl who has good role in the movie was brilliant with her chameleon acting.

Overall I would rate not more than 1.5 out 5. Even hardcore energetic Rajani fans would get exhausted after first 30 mins in the movie. Total letdown.

In my (extended) area where I live in Germany, War 2 got far more screenings than Coolie in this week which is - imo - due to the production house and the Spy Universe, not to the region (there are also South Indian movies screened throughout the year).

Also in the IMAX Traumpalast (biggest Imax screen in the world), it's only War 2.

In Geneva (where I also live), both movies are screened this week.
