As I mentioned, these online sources inflates the outcomes due to the adjusted net factor.
I am a big Madhuri fan but won't hesitate to say that Khal Nayak was NOT A BLOCK BUSTER, but just a super hit, although it ranked at number 2 just after AANKHAIN.
Baazigar comes at 4th number and was a super hit.
The only blockbuster of 1993 was AANKHAIN, that's it.
The online links most probably just throws away the term block buster carelessly to emphasize the big business, but in reality block buster and super hit are two entirely different classifications.
I wish I would have those printed trade journals (the most authentic source for boxoffice, even till date) to show you the boxoffice classifications by those very well esteemed and known trade pandits.
I'm shocked though that even Khal Nayak was not considered a blockbuster. Especially considering all the hype for the movie and its rather infamous song. Not to mention Sanjay and Madhuri at the height of their popularity.
It's funny how Aankhen is mostly forgotten compared to Khal Nayak, Darr, and Baazigar yet that's the only one that was characterized as a true blockbuster back then.
I wish the online sources were more reliable then. They shouldn't inflate numbers just to claim other films are blockbusters if they weren't originally considered that. Yes, it's a pity those printed trade journals aren't readily available now.
