I was glad also that Filmfare recognized Black and didn't just leave it for the critics awards. They made sure to recognize it with the main awards as well. For example, Khamoshi got awards at Filmfare mainly from the critics categories such as Best Film and Best Actress.
Yep agree. Also, 2005 lacked quality as a whole in terms of movies. Black was so far ahead in movies that year. Bunty aur Babli, Salaam Namaste, Dus...these were the movies that were hits that year. SRK just had Paheli which was more of an art movie than a commercial movie.
Yes, people always remember Aamir boycotting awards after 1995 when he didn't win for Rangeela. That was 50%. Next year, when he won for Raja Hindustani, he said Nana Patekar deserved it not him which was correct actually and that's when he completely shunned the awards.

I was also thinking that something that helped Black be recognized at Filmfare was the fact that 2005 didn't have a wide variety of great films that year. Bunty Aur Babli and Salaam Namaste were huge successes but not the type of films to win Best Film. If not for Black, I could see either Rani or Preity winning Best Actress for BAB or SN. And like you said, Paheli was an art film and I think it wasn't even super well received by audiences. Parineeta probably had the best chances to win Best Film after Black. Certainly No Entry wasn't going to rack up any awards.
Oh, I never realized that Aamir Khan's boycott of the awards was when he won for Raja Hindustani but felt Nana Patekar should have won instead for Khamoshi. That makes more sense now. That's something that's often happened at the Oscars where an actor was snubbed for a previous performance, so the Oscars decide to award them for their next performance which is less deserving and means another actor, with the better performance is snubbed instead. James Stewart was considered snubbed for not winning the Oscar for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, so the next year the Oscars awarded him for The Philadelphia Story, even though his role is more supporting and Cary Grant is the main lead. Henry Fonda, Stewart's best friend, was up that year for The Grapes of Wrath and considered to have the superior performance. Stewart even said that Fonda should have won the Oscar instead of him. It took 41 years for the Oscars to finally give Fonda his makeup Oscar.

Yes, I loved Parineeta but it was not at the level of Black. Music was great though.
Wow, your historic knowledge of the Oscars is really deep and I don't have any knowledge to even speak about your point. I'll just move it to this year. Film and Director is not even a question as I think Oppenheimer is going to sweep those awards. What an insane movie. A classic after a really long time.
But between Cilian Murphy and DeCaprio, who will win BA? I think it will be Murphy (Basing it on Golden Globes) because I think on performance I cannot choose between the 2.

Great list. I haven't watched many of those but have heard a lot. Was Manoj Bajpai the lead actor/character in Satya? I loved his performance and so many more of his are amazing too. If we speak of supporting and villan roles then this list will go into pages.
I absolutely cannot agree with Amitabh overacting in Black. It's your opinion so respect that. there have been movies like Laal Baadshah, Khuda Gawa and Sooryavansham where I havent liked him and found him trying too hard but Black was from a different universe for me. Keep in mind his character was in the initial stages of Alzheimers/Dementia as revealed at the end of the film so he had to act with those nuances.
Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman in GUIDE.

Completely forgot about Sridevi and Kamal Hassan in Sadma. What a mindblowing movie and outstanding performances.
You rate SRK in Fan above SRK in Swades, Darr, Baazigar, DDLJ, Chak De India, My Name is Khan????
Haven't watched many sanjeev kumar movies except the popular ones like Seeta aur Geeta and Sholay, (cameo in Parichay) but my parents say he was one of the finest actors in the industry.
