Although I like Salman as an actor in most of the movies I've watched with him, I don't think that he could have portrayed the Devdas Bhansali had in mind. (Btw, I found Salman very endearing in Tubelight...yes, I'm such 'weird')
His Devdas isn't a nice character - in no way...it's an intelligent weakling whose position in the family is this of the younger son whose own interests are nothing to the rest of the snooty family.
The problem with Devdas is his inner opposition not getting expressed other than when alcohol frees him from inhibitions.
What I like about Bhansali is that he respected SRK's approach to enact a not really likable character. (I adore SRK's talent to make people root for very flawed characters)
Who here knows Nicolas Cage's role in LeavingLasVegas (focussing to kill oneself through excessive consumation of alcohol)?
What does it say about myself that some of my favorite SRK performances as a romantic hero are when he plays characters that most others deem unlikable like his Devdas or Dev in KANK? Not to mention my earlier posts about siding with him in Darr over Sunny Deol.
Is Leaving Las Vegas good? I've never seen it because I'm not a Nicholas Cage fan and I was annoyed that he won the Oscar over Sean Penn in Dead Man Walking or even Anthony Hopkins in Nixon.
