I would have loved it if Urmila won Ek Haseena Thi instead.

But the film did not receive the popularity and recognition it deserved at the time of its release.

Yes, she was wonderful. I don't remember who won the Best Actress Critics award that year but Urmila would have been a wonderful contender there as well.

Was the movie not a hit?

Ek Hasina Thi performed decently but nothing solid. Actually, the film was a bit ahead of its time if you think about it.

I still get goosebumps when ever I watch some scenes from that film.

Kareena won the critics award for Yuva that year, which was such a khairati winsmiley26

I mean, she was/is pretty, a good dancer, and had some big hits, but that's pretty much the extent of it. It's funny to compare her to the likes of Rani and Madhuri.

Haha. I get your point.

But I don't think anyone here is trying to compare her with the likes of Rani or Madhuri.smiley36

I think what people are trying to say is that actors should be given credit where its due.

What you mentioned in your other post is a pretty valid point. Filmfare has always had a go-to group that they favor for a time. Currently their favorite is Alia.

No, it's not for yuva, kareena won for DEV, and she's amazing in it

Oh yeah sorry. It was for Dev.

Still a khairati win IMHO, especially considering when Urmila from Ek Hasina Thi was right there.

Yes, it's the type of movie that would do much better now. I can see why audiences did not flock to it in masses back then. Even when I first watched it, I thought it was a romance between Urmila and Saif. I was not expecting it to be a thriller or the twist with Saif.

Oh yuck. I've seen Dev but have virtually no memory of her in that film. What an undeserving win. I think they felt obligated to give her an award then since she was a Kapoor and had no chances of winning anything in the popular awards back then.

And actually I'm equally as shocked that Aishwarya didn't win either for the critics award. The fact that both Urmila and Aish were both passed over for what actually did win is despicable.

I would have liked if either Aish or Urmila had won that year.

Regarding Kareena, her filmography from 2000 to 2007 (until Jab We Met).... is a classic case of Nepotism privilege and should be a case study.

I heard some insider scoop from that KJo uses Bebo as an example to his new nepo girls to wait for the "Jab We Met" moment of their career....

He off-course uses Alia as an example of how to make a career out of "perception".

Now basically all these Ananaya, Jhanvi, Suhana, etc are just waiting for that one film in their career that turns their career around and does what JWM did to Kareena.

But I don't see it happening.

What these girls don't realize is that Kareena had very strong luck in her favor at the time of JWM.

It was an organic moment and can't be replicated.

Also, 2007 was a different time and JWM was a one of its kind of film.

My goodness, I can see Kjo using Kareena as a teaching lesson for his new nepo stars. Especially since all the "actresses" of today cite Kareena and her Poo character as their role model and idol that they wish to emulate. 90s/2000s actresses all used to cite Sridevi as their inspiration so we've fallen from Sridevi to Poo.

I agree that Jab We Met was a once in a lifetime film that just happened to come out at the right time. You can't replicate the magic of a film like that and I say that as someone who cannot stand Kareena but that film/performance has stood the test of time. Trying to manufacture the factors that created that film will never work and that's most evident from the fact that Kareena herself kept trying to play Geet 2.0 in other films like Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and she was unable to charm audiences again from replicas.
