Should Shilpa Shetty have won the best actress for Phir Milenge?

Rani won the Filmfare 2005 for best actress for Hum Tum. She was good but Shilpa was outstanding in Phir Milenge, which I recently watched. In fact, Salman and Abhishek were also very good.

Overall, Shilpa's best perfromance to date.

Also, Kareena was very good in Dev that year.

I believe Rani won the award because the film did well commercially.

Thoughts???

What's up with the sudden obsession with Shilpa Shetty on this forum? Is it because of Sukhee on Netflix? LOL. She was never really a top-notch actress from the get-go. I mean, she was/is pretty, a good dancer, and had some big hits, but that's pretty much the extent of it. It's funny to compare her to the likes of Rani and Madhuri.

As for the Filmfare Awards, I feel like they have this go-to group they favor for a time. Even if these actors deliver better performances later on, the awards don't keep coming their way which is kind of crazy, considering most of the actors give better performances in later years of their career. In the 2000s, it was Rani and Preity and then Kareena and Vidya. And since Alia burst onto the scene, it's always Alia, with an occasional nod to Deepika in between.

She deserved it for Pinjar in 2003. Superlative performance.

I liked her very much in it so I'm glad she was nominated although I think Rani was the most deserving of the Filmfare that year. But Shilpa's role was definitely more daring.

Tbh I would have been happy with pretty much any of the winners that year. Preity for Veer-Zaara, Aishwarya for Raincoat, Urmila for Ek Hasina Thi, or Shilpa in Phir Milenge. Probably one of the most stacked years for female performances where anyone could easily have been the winner.

I thought she was better in that than in Bhoot. But most of her nominations that year were for Bhoot with only some additional ones for Pinjar. And she had no nominations for Tezeeb whhich I also think was better than Bhoot.

Yes, you can tell that Filmfare did not favor certain actors and actresses. Shilpa comes to mind, such as her lack of a nomination for Dhadkan (which was the thread I created earlier about how she was unfairly snubbed). Same with Amisha Patel who never won a competitive award in the early 2000s. And Urmila never won the Best Actress award despite several nominations, although she did win the Critics Best Actress award.

Interestingly enough, all three actresses have talked about how they have felt snubbed by awards and never felt they got their due. Urmila at least won the Critics Best Actress for Bhoot and Amisha got a special Filmfare for Gadar but Shilpa has never won anything.
