Timings, era and phase in an actor's life plays an important part for any movie's fate. Boxoffice is always a very tricky and unpredictable thing, even for the trade pandits.
I am wondering would Shahrukh Khan's Ra One, that was a flop at the ticket window in year 2011, some 12 years ago would be a blockbuster if it was released now in 2023 ?
Reason why I am saying this is I found so many similarities in Ra One with Patthan and even Jawan. Not being the exact same story, but the overall feel and all of the ingredients that were injected were very much same in all 3 films.
Ra One and Patthan shares the same flare of script where a child like story was involved, that item to spread the disease in Patthan and Shahrukh's character in Ra One coming out of the video game, both to appeal the younger audience.
Just like Patthan, Ra One also had good music and chammak challo being the chartbuster track those days.
The elements of comedy, emotions, family values, skyfy ingredients, power packed action, drama and all sort of entertainment was also involved in Ra One to make it a huge hit just like what we saw in Patthan.
Also different avatars of Shahrukh and even being a hero and a vilain at the same time as well were involved in Ra One, like various avatars of him in Jawan.
I personally found Ra One entertaining and a full on paisa vasool movie that was meant only for the boxoffice.
Few made fun of its script but the same people lapped up similar sort of films in form of Patthan and Jawan.
Do you think that 4 years' career gap which made the fans curious and thirsty to see Shahrukh again on the silver screen in full blown masala films would made a big difference to the boxoffice outcome of Ra One ?
Would Ra One be a hit or even a massive blockbuster like Patthan and Jawan if it was released this year, instead of in 2011 and with this strategy of four years of career gap without any release in between ?
