You are right about cinema going back to the mindless crap of the 80's

I think Gen Z is responsible for it

Bheja Fry 2 was not as good as the first one, but I enjoyed that one as well.

It was sweet. I was skeptical about a movie written by Jemima Goldsmith/Khan and directed by Shekhar Kapoor (thought it would be boring). But I liked it.

Bend it Like Beckham is one of those feel-good fun films you can never get bored of, no matter how many times you watch it. I watched it thrice in theaters when it came out. And almost a few times every year ever since.

It is really a fantastic film on so many levels. It has a wonderful storyline that is relatable to immigrants, desis back home, as well as Western audiences. It balances genuine heartfelt drama with truly hilarious humor. The acting is fantastic and three relative newcomers at that time - Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, and Jonathan Rhys-Myers stole the show.

I believe Bend It Like Beckham is on Disney Plus in the USA.

And yes, the original movie was indeed written to be a lesbian romance between Jess and Jules. But there were many reasons why it was changed. The film was progressive and challenging in its portrayal of NRIs and didn't want to risk alienating audiences. Even Western audiences did not embrace queer films that easily. Also, Gurinder Chadda really wanted to break the stereotype that athletic women who play sports are gay.

But Jess and Jules is such a popular ship in the fandom. Many fans are rooting for a remake that carries on with the original lesbian plot.

After Slumdog Millionare they don’t really make such films anymore and I thought by now we would’ve evolved or something

Omg same. These small Indo-American films were my go-to films on Saturday on star plus.

Loved the coach Jonathan Rhys(?) In BILB.

And Martin Henderson in P&P

The music as well.

Also, how hot was kal Penn in American Desi!

Even Kunal and Vinay Virmani<3
