I don’t think it’s an unpopular opinion based on my own experience in the UK. Ranbir is typically first choice amongst his Bollywood peers but outside that circle Ranveer tends to have an edge as the preferred actor from my experience (I know many people who aren’t really huge Bollywood junkies but they will go watch a Ranveer movie no matter the genre).
I feel that Ranveer is hated by men who are insecure about their own masculinity,
They can't digest a men dressing flamboyantly, and still be sexy, manly and desirable to women. And hence, they troll him.
It also doesn't helps that Ranveer himself takes it a bit too far sometimes.
For e.g. That nude photo-shoot was totally unnecessary, considering how most of the India is still very conservative.
