Poor Megan Rapinoe! After leading USA to two world cup victories, in her final game she was the one who missed the penalty kick and caused the team the game. Sour ending to her storied career as the Post says

Why did she miss ? She was only playing against a women's team , not a under age local boys team 😛 (I am a meanie)

Btw she was accused of poisoning the entire team when they snubbed the National Anthem at the World Cup

This sentiment is unfair to the team. 2-3 senior players have created this culture. It can be challenging for younger players to go against an established culture. Besides, many players did sing the anthem.

I am not against protesting the national anthem. I think when a country does something wrong or you want to bring attention to a wrong, a protest is completely acceptable. It just felt like an odd choice when there isn't anything major going on. And a national anthem is something that can bring a team of different backgrounds together.

There were a few factors against the USA. This team is younger and less experienced. Seeing the US model - a lot of other countries have invested in their women's teams and are now playing at par. On the other hand, the US has been a bit complacent in its belief they have the best players. Rose LaVelle, IMHo the most talented midfielder was initially marred by injury and then got an unfair yellow card vs Portugal that weakened the Sweden lineup. Finally, Meg Rapinoe should have retired before the cup. So many athletes try to push for a final swansong or believe they still have something to contribute. But sometimes its time to pass the baton. It may have resulted in the USA not even advancing to knockouts but in the long run, it would have rebuilt the team faster.

Well, I saw topics here on BWF for men's soccer

I saw topics here for men's (american) football

That's why I asked. I was prepared to rage against the misogyny of this forum about how they don't care about women's sports, but many people answered in the topic and disappointed me 😔😆
