Are stars indeed idolised in real life?

Anil Kapoor once spoke to TIME magazine and said if you are a Bollywood star in India then you are almost like god.

Is it true?

Are Indians STILL that crazy about celebs and stars?

Do people indeed take them seriously or are obsessed for them?

Or has influence of stars waned with growth of education, literacy, being more aware of real life controversies of stars or process of filmmaking and awareness of how stars are hyped by PR, paid media etc?

there are still SOME Indians who are obsessed... because they have nothing better to do. Just look at the hordes outside SRK's mannat, That circus never stops and all it takes is for an appearance from the court jester for the crowd to go berserk😆

but the numbers have probably declined as percent of the overall population... because of increased supply- more media covering stars and larger number of stars. I have even been to parties with stars in attendance where people couldn't be bothered who the clown was.
