There was an old South film with a fly being the lead.
Haathi mere saathi was a huge blockbuster and kids loved it back then.
I remember Jackie made a joke and how dog overshadowed him in Teri Meherbaaniyan. As dog does all saving work in that film and is real hero of that film.
I agree with your points. Actors feel insecure about being overshadowed and I guess we have legal and budget issues working with animals too.
