When has RKR worked with #1 heroine of his time the way Abhishek worked with Rani when she was at top in 2005?

YRF was top banner. BAB had hit songs, supporting role from Amitabh, item song by Ash and Rani as main lead.

It was not hit merely due to Abhishek.

When has RKR or Kartik got such big stars and banners with them?

Some can improve if they want or are trained well.

Rekha for eg was terrible in her initial films. She knew NOTHING be it make up or camera angle or dialogue delivery or language or dress sense or expressions. She learnt everything later and transformed entirely so much so that her previous bad films are forgotten and she looks unrecognizable in them.

Why can't today's lot try to atleast improve instead of merely relying on sex appeal and skin show?

Are insiders who cannot act preferable to outsiders who cannot act?

Perhaps we should use the word limited repertoire of emoting rather than a total inability to act. Just like not all doctors, salespeople admin staff are good there is a sliding scale. Doesn’t mean they won’t be employable. It’s just that their capabilities are limited.
acting school or coaches can be used as quality improvement measures.
in any case who one might find limited in their portrayal ability may just have enough of a fan base for him or her to generate a decent living. Besides stardom it’s also about earning money to live.
personally I do find some very established good actors also limited eg shah rule kajol Anil etc. I can predict their portrayal so I don’t watch their movies. But that’s me.

Today's lot does none of that.

All they know is glamour or plastic surgeries and gym.

Besides SRK is there any other NSD alumni who achieved superstardom (or even stardom) - it's always been synonymous with arty actors and actresses.

Naseeruddin, Om Puri, Nawaz, Anupam Kher, Irrfan hardly ever had much of a box office pull.
