Who was the main protagonist in Dangal?

This is not about the actors. We know movie was a Blockbuster because of Aamir. But narratively and storyline wise, who was the main protagonist of Dangal?

Its a biopic on Mahavir Singh Phogat and his two daughters Geeta and Babita. But movie focuses more on Mahavir and Geeta than Babita. Film starts with Mahavir and narration closely follows him and what he's doing. He's driving the plot. But after Geeta's first wrestling match, story focuses also on her character and starts developing her as the protagonist. Second half shows her journey of a hero, although Mahavir is still around. Climax belongs to Geeta, while Mahavir is the mentor who can't help the protagonist in the final fight and she has to do it on her own. Doesn't that make Geeta the main protagonist and the movie about her?

Main character aside, I hated how they did dirty to Babita. Babita is definitely a better wrestler than Geeta (and Vinesh is better than both). Babita also have more international medals to her name. But according to Dangal, all she did was just cheering for Geeta...

Geeta's plus is just that she was first woman to win Commonwealth gold...otherwise Babita and Vinesh have won more Commonwealth medals than her.

The whole movie was about how great he is as a father & how his daughters kowtow & bow to him in every respect esp their careers. To me, Dangal is over-rated. I said what I said.

Aamir as the father of the two girls trying to help them advance in a male dominated field in a place where female infanticide was rampant(Haryana).Living through their successes and failures.

So the hero in this movie is Maharvir Singh Poghat

It's Amir's production, Amir's view and Amir's portray of the father that made the movie (which was in NO WAY feminist /gave the girls an own agenda).

Geeta merely was highlighted in the movie because she was played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Amir was adamant to make her standing out.

The main protagonist was Amir's vision, imo.

It is about his redemption and fulfilling his dream through daughters in a female foeticide infested village of Haryana and overcoming all odds and showing how girls are no less and father can fulfil his own dreams through daughter too.

Why was the main protagonist in Avengers?

One person's actions or story may stick out the most in ensemble stories. But that doesn't make them the protagonist. There are multiple protagonists.
