I think, what you just write, is much less reality and much more wishful thinking.

How would you know about the intensity of the other person's feeling? Because the other one shows it, tells it?

And how long may "head over heals" resist to the day-to-day life?

What Rohit offers to Naina is the freedom to decide the intensity of her love...it is UNCONDITIONAL love, it is the purest form of love.

Have you ever experienced unconditional love? How intense and fulfilling that is? Aman does give Naina (and Rohit) a gift that is very, very rare.

It had nothing to do with unrequited love, not like SRK's character had to live it with Aish in the (imo bad) movie Karan made later (and where he makes SRK say those lines Karan whishes to feel himself).

Umm did I talk about my own experiences? I was just expressing my opinion on the said subject. What might be wishful thinking for you might be reality for some other people, we all have different experiences in life after all. While I respect your opinion but I would refrain from continuing in this discussion further because I don’t really have anything to add or deliberate upon anymore. And I agree what Rohit felt for Naina was unconditional in nature, may be they had a happy married life as well but I don’t think she was ever as much into him as he was into her.

She lost her dad so he didn't want her to lose him too. He knew Rohit would be a good partner for her after the drunk night.

Sorry, infinity, I didn't want to become personal with my "you"...I got carried away, a bit...

I'm even sure that she wasn't "as much into him as he was into her" but that doesn't hinder a marriage to be fulfilling and enjoyably to live. She loved Rohit in her way, he loved her in his way...and that was okay for both.

I call that freedom of love in togetherness. Not possessive, not demanding but giving what one has to give... 😊

When I read what you write, I understand how you see the movie but I think I saw another movie than you...or I saw it in another way.

I remember very distinctly that Naina is deeply unhappy with her home life but feels fine in Rohit's presence (he makes her forget her sorrows)...she even thinks about him as a very nice guy (the dinner invitation with the elderly woman from the evening school) and sees him as a CLOSE friend to her (we also get to know that she notices him writing in his black diary which later becomes a life changing role).

All this is done to set the stage...like the scene where the grandma hits the little girl and to console both the little ones, Jenni (who is of christian faith) tells them how her mother told her (when she was unhappy and crying) that Jesus would send his angel to wipe the tears...and that an angel would come to them and wipe their tears and will bring them happiness...and would send their sorrow far away.

When the little girl asks when the angel will come, it's SRK's entry scene.

So, for me, the importance of Aman as an ANGEL is crystal clear and I don't see the movie with your eyes, grounded in strict reality. And I guess, the movie should not be dissected the way you do as there are scenes that clearly belong to something magical that I - among others - cherish in (Hindi) movies: someone is there with you but only the audience see him/her.

ur off on a different tangent here …I’m not grounding the movie in reality…

I’m all in for a magical angel fixing everything in nainas life

She was heartbroken …she shouldn’t be coerced into marriage when she’s not fully healed, recovered and an innocent guy like rohit shouldn’t go through a one sided relationship with her when she’s not over aman and hasn’t processed the news of his impending death

Plain and simple

There is nothing fairytale and magical about naina marrying rohit under those circumstances …
And it’s not “fixing” her life….it’s potentially ruining 2 lives

The decent thing to have done there is to give everyone time to process amans death, recover, heal and then think about what to do…

Yes, that's right, Aman pushes him.

But actually, Aman is pushing him in something more important, imo. Rohit is a guy who avoids commitment. That is a weakness in him. So basically, Aman pushes him into committing for something, to take a stand, to even make the other person more important than himself.

I find this very positive.

In the whole story, Aman is beneficial for the others (except for his mom and himself), I feel.

Err….rohit dosent have issues with comitting …he was pretty in love with naina …and when he knew she didn’t reciprocate he moved on…he didn’t commit to the other girls coz he wasn’t in love with them ….

Aman pushed him to pursue naina…knowing very well she still loves aman and is currently heartbroken ….that’s not fixing her or her life or rohits life …..

Adding further , rohit and nainas relationship was definitely one sided because u never see her go out of her way for him….he does it several times ….when he agrees to pose as her bf, when he cheers her up during the drunk night, when he’s ok with her grumpiness and mood swings and tolerates them, when he supports her restaurant struggling financially, when he is understanding of her love for someone else and respects that….

The only thing naina does is take dance lessons with rohit ….some equal relationship this 🧐

I agree again...the "fairytale and magical" is about Aman's role in the story, in no way about naina's and Rohit's marriage. That's - in the contrary - a very sad thing.

I think, Aman just had enough trust in Rohit and enough belief in Naina.

There is this dispute between Aman and Saif on Saif's terrace - after Naina and Saif get to know about Aman dying. I think Aman's arguments have value as much as Saif's and Naina's and yours here.

But...the movie was already more than two and a half hour done...I guess, it was time for a dramatic end but with giving Aman what he wanted for Naina... (the healing process would be kept unknown to us except that we got to know that there had been one).
